5v3+1 Positional Play to Goal. Right and Left Side.
Set-up: 20 x 25 Yard Grid
9 Players: 5 vs. 3 (7/11, 10, 6) + 1 (4/5)
4 Blocks of 3 minutes. (Losing team has fitness)
Objective: 5 Players are looking to connect 8 passes for 1 pt or get into final zone by dribbling across the line. This will create a 2v1 in last zone to score in big goal for 1 pt. The #11/7 works as an unopposed target to connect the game and can be defended once ball crosses into final zone.
5 attacking players can get tagged if they touch it more than once. Once in the final zone, tagging is no longer in effect.
Scoring:
- Red teams scores by winning it and connecting 3 passes, dribbling across one of the two red lines, or 3 tags.
- # team scores by connecting 8 passes or scoring on big goal but must meet the conditions stated above.
Progression/Blocks:
Block 1: Understand the rules, conditions & Shape.
- Offensive Shape of 6,10 & 7/11 (never on the same line, always giving angles to each other)
Block 2: Movement off the ball & body positioning. Are you getting tagged? Why?
- Understanding of movement from #6,10 & 3 based off 4/5. (If the 5 stays wide, what should the 6, 10, and/or 2/3 do?)
- 3rd/4th man runs (what is the hardest pass to defend?)
Block 3: Progression added for 7/11 to come inside to initiate movements of surrounding players to get in behind.
- Movement off the ball of attacking players. Movement of dribbler once they have space and time. Where should they go and why? What should happen once the 7/11 comes inside turns and goes towards goal?
Block 4: Same as Block 3.
- Movement off the ball of attacking players. Movement of dribbler once they have space and time. Where should they go and why?
Coaching Points: Overload the strong side to create numerical superiorty.
Offensive Shape.
3rd/4th man runs.
Movement off the ball and movement of dribbler.
Specific: Movement of 4/5 triggers movement of 6/10 & 2/3.
If the #5/4 has space to dribble into space on the inside that triggers movement of 6 to go wide and push the 2/3 higher and a little more central. If the 4/5 dribbles into space from a wider area then #6 gives them an angle inside.
