Set Up: With fewer players, play without targets. Still have the triangles at the half.
Instructions: Without targets, for the team defending the goal to switch direction they must pass or dribble the ball into one of the target triangles and then either pass or dribble out the other side of the triangle to maintain possession of the ball. Play to a score or a time limit.
Coaching Points: Immediate transition from attack to defense and from defense to attack. Be aware of your team's balance both in attack and defending in case possession or direction changes. Movement of ball and players to create scoring opportunities. Anticipation of whether the player on the ball can dribble or needs to pass into a target triangle. Anticipate how the player in the triangle with the ball can retain possession (pass or dribble).

With targets (20 mins)
Set Up: Divide the group into three teams of 5. Set up a triangle in each corner at the halfway line and at the center spot. At the other end of the field is the goal with a GKer. Place target players in each triangle and on the end line.
Instructions: One team goes to goal and defends the triangles, while onother team defends the goal and looks to play to the target players in the triangles at the half. The third team occupy the target positions (3 at the half way line in the triangles and 2 on the end line working between the post and the corner). If the Attacking team (black) scores, they retain possession and switch attacking directions. If they lose the ball, the defending team (white) look to play to one of the three triangle targets. To score and switch directions the ball needs to be received by a target and he or she must play a first time pass out the other side of the triangle and retain possession. They would then immediately switch to attacking the goal. The end line targets also play one touch to retain possession for the team passing them the ball. Play to a time limit or a score. Rotate the targets in and one of the teams out.
Coaching Points: Immediate transition from attack to defense and from defense to attack. Be aware of your team's balance both in attack and defending in case possession or direction changes. Movement of ball and players to create scoring opportunities. Anticipation of where the target lay off needs to go and move to be there. Quality technique, especially with passes to and from the targets.
