Setup:
2 outer grids of 25x20; central grid of 25x10

Activity:
Team in possession must complete at least 3 (modify to 4 or 5 if too fast) before they can switch play to opposite side.
Only defenders can earn points by: 1) Steal ball and score in counter-goal (2 points) or 2)Steal ball and play into central defenders (1 point) or 3) Central defenders intercept pass.
Progression:
+Allow far side team to send in a player to central zone to play through (i.e. a center midfielder)
Coaching Points:
~3 central defenders keep gaps small between
~Reading cues of when to step up vs. drop off
~Checking shoulders to see who to screen (intercept pass)

Setup:
Half field (field should be 60 yards wide)
2 teams in 1-4-2 formation.
Balls behind each GK.
Activity:
1) Teams score by passing ball into GK feet.
2) Teams score by passing ball into GK hands (or feet).
Coaching Points:
~Cues of when to step: bouncing ball, backward pass
~Don't let player on ball turn to face forward
~Back four squeezing together to deny penetrating pass
~Reading cues of when to drop: time & space on ball, head up, approaching ball to strike
~Open body shape of back four - see ball and player

Setup:
Half field with 3 counter goals for defending team.
Defensive team in 1-4-2.
Attacking team in 2-3-3
Activity:
Balls alternate starting positions: goal kick for def., free kick for attack, throw in.
When in possession, attacking team has 8 players. Out of possession the 2 outside backs drop back in gates (no defense).
Coaching Point:
~Deny central penetration
~Marking position: ball-side, goal-side
~Stepping up when possible: "when ball goes up, we go up"
~GK protecting space behind back four
Progression:
+Outside backs always in (8v7)

Setup:
Cones setup as shown.
4 lines (1 line for each position in back four)
Activity:
1) 4 players come out from lines and coach serves 4 balls in. Player receives and plays back in two touches and other players move to cover/balance positions behind ball.
2) Progress to remove inner cones and use outer cones. Add goalkeeper and work in bigger space.
After the 4 balls have been played, players run around cones and perform warmup exercises:
a)jog, carioca, diagonal shuffles
b)activation
c)inch worm, quad-sky-to-toe, T-hamstring, lateral squats
d)linear skip, lateral skip, backward skip
e)linear bound, 45 degree bound
f) quick feet to accel, quick feet lateral to accel, back pedal to accel
