Essence:
Players practice receving the ball in flow (without stopping the ball) on forehand & backhand
Structure:
Player B makes a move towards the ball, and then peels off to their right
Player A passes to the outside of B
B receives the ball on forehand and passes to C
Pointers:
Player B receives the ball past their body so they can have good vision straight after the receive and can go forwards
Player B aims for 2 touches
Player A/C make sure their pass is wide to ensure B is always moving (makes sure there is flow to eliminate defender)
Variations:
+ Repeat drill but with backhand receive on opposite side
+/- Increase/decrease passing distance
+ Add defender (semi passive to begin with) in as player D to put pressure player B

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Hockey images.
Essence:
Receiving the ball from right to left and left to right
Structure:
Players pass round the square (anti-clockwise, then clockwise)
Ensure the passes go round the outside of the square
If in groups of 3 or 5 or more then make it a triangle or pentagon etc.
Pointers:
Player receiving's feet face where the next pass is going
When anti-clockwise player has soft hands to receive on the stick and allows the ball to come across their body before receiving, to allow them to pass quickly after receipt
When clockwise the pass goes to receivers back (right) foot, they push their left elbow out to allow them to keep feet facing where they are passing next.
Encourage pre-scanning (looking where next pass is going before they receive the ball).
Variations:
+/- Increase/decrease size of square
+ make competitive and groups count how many passes they make in 1 minute.
+ for more experienced see if can accurately play 1st time passes - ensure footwork is good to allow this

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Hockey images.
Encourage comfort on the ball through having a good first touch - give limited amount of touches, or steps taken with the ball if required to ensure they have to have a good 1st touch and pre-scan
Encourage taking quick free hits when attacking, and sprinting back to get behind the ball and into position when defending a free hit. Reward with points if necessary, or say free hit must be taken with 3-5 seconds of it being won otherwise it is turned over.

Wide based receive (10 mins)
Essence:
Wide Based receive - Most important safest receive
Structure:
Player B makes a short 2/3 metre lead towards player A
Player A passes into player B
Player B receives with wide base (feet big distance apart to shield ball from imaginary defender behind them).
Player B turns strong to their open stick and passes to player C.
The same is then repeated from player C to B.
After 1 minute rotate the players round so each player does role B.
Pointers:
Player B makes sure their first touch goes back to the space it has come from, with a hard right hand on the stick.
They use their body as a shield from the imaginary defender behind them.
Once ball is received they then accelerate away to get away from the defender before passing to C.
Variations:
+ Increase/Decrease passing distance
+ Make the pass in a little lifted one over a flat stick
+ Add defender in as player D to put pressure player B for more experienced players
