Principle of Play/Main Moment/Football Problem or Four Core Skills:

Session Objective: Attacking Principles (U10 - U12) -  Penetration/Support/Mobility

  • Can you run/dribble with the ball? If you can’t can you find some who can? (Killer Pass)
  • When running with the ball, can you see beyond the ball? (Killer Pass)
  • Can you shoot at goal? If you can’t can you find some who can? (Killer Pass)
  • Where can you move to create a shot on goal?
  • Can you help your teammate with the ball?
  • Can you position yourself where you can receive the ball?
  • No standing zone!
  • Can you see the ball and another teammate?
  • Can you see the ball and the goal?
  • Can you receive the ball in an area with no opponent close to you?
  • Correct passing technique of the ball.
  • Quick passes and find a team mate.
  • Work as a team to find a shot.

Gates Passing (15 mins)

Session Organisation: 

  • Divide the players into pairs with 1 ball between them.
  • Field size 30 (L) x 20 (W).
  • 6 gates of markers.
  • If 10 players make 2 extra gates.

Rules/Explanation: 

  • Each pair is to move around area and play passes in between the gates (markers).
  • Move to different gates each time they complete a pass between them.
  • Count how many passes they complete in a certain amount of time or change it to first to 10 passes.
Progressions
  • The time of sets or size of the area can be adjusted to suit the needs and abilities of the players.
  • Aim to improve the number of passes between the gates each set.
  • Practice under pressure to enhance precision and composure during gameplay.
  • Encourage crisp, accurate using various surfaces.

Technical Coaching Points: 

    • Body square/chest facing target. (Passing)
    • Plant your non-kicking foot next to the ball. (Passing)
    • Point your toes down. (Passing)
    • Ankle locked. (Passing)
    • Knee slightly bent. (Passing)
    • Use the inside of your kicking foot to make contact with the middle of the ball. (Passing)
    • Follow through (e.g., like putting a golf ball) (Passing)
    • Keep the pass low and accurate. (Passing)
    • Awareness of weight and timing for effective passes. (Passing)
    • Scan the field before receiving the ball and quick decision making. (Receiving)
    • Cushion the ball with precise first touch, utilizing the foot's surface. (Receiving)

Session Timing:

  • Complete 4 sets of 2 minutes with a 1 minute rest in between sets.
