Objective - Introduce goalkeepers to basic footwork techniques moving forward, backward, and on angle
Intentions
- Introduce techniques - step, shuffle, cross
- Keepers understanding the importance of BALANCE - keep feet under shoulders
- Quick, compact movement - always ready to set
- As always, build good handling/extension habits

Depth/Angled Footwork (Step/Shuffle) Activity - 2 Step Forward, 1 Step Back (20 mins)
Objective - Activate hands while working two distances of depth movement
- 1) GK leaps 3 hurdles
- 2) Shuffle/step to middle marker and service
- 3) Drop step to back marker and service
- 4) Forward shuffle/step to front marker and service
- 5) Drop step to middle marker and service
- Choice of footwork - shuffle or step? Based on distance
- Fwd/drop step - one foot before the other, avoid jumping into set
- Balanced, controlled movements -keep feet under shoulders
- Reinforce good handling techniques

Depth/Angled Footwork - Vert/Angled Footwork w/Short Distro + Extension (20 mins)
Objective - Build good vertical/angled footwork habits while working extension saves and short distro
- 1) Central service from coach
- 2) GK moves forward on angle to touch cone
- 3) Drop to original position for extension to same side as cone touched
- 4) Forward to marker/cone to receive and play back to coach (1 touch, work both feet)
- 5) Back to marker
- 6) Repeat 1-3 for other side
- Always move so chest and shoulders face server
- Quick but balanced movement - small steps, don't reach or lean
- Vary the distance to the cones to work different techniques (step, shuffle, cross, etc.)
- Reinforce good handling/extension technique
