Organization: 4 Red vs 4 Blue with a goalkeeper (or adjust to all players playing). Two pug nets at the half. Create three zone vertically on the field.
Instructions:
Small Sided game with three zones. Condition for moving the ball forward into next zone is that it must be a forward pass. If players attempt to dribble across a zone, the coach will call a change of possession at the spot. If a goal is scored, team that is scored on starts with possession at their end line. If ball goes out of bounds, dribble in as normal.
Coaching Points: 1. Encourage players to take a shielding position with opposing players while being open to the ball and the direction of travel to ensure positive first touch. 2. Alternatively, encourage movement off the ball with feints to ensure players are open to receive a ball.
Progression: 1. Additionally require one pass into a zone behind the attacking play before that team can score.

Organization: 2 Red vs 2 Blue at a time (adjust to ensure 2 equal teams). Two pug nets. 30 by 20 yards.
Instructions: Players play a 2 v 2 game attempting to score on each other. However, to be able to score the team in possession must complete a pass back to their support player AND one pass forward to their support player who have to remain off the field on the side of the pug net. Once these two passes are complete, the team can go to goal in any way. Support players cannot shoot on net. On each goal both teams switch support and on-field players. Play begins with a support player in the back of the team scored on. Dribble-ins on the sides.
Coaching Points: 1 Encourage players to use hands to communicate where they want the ball delivered to. 2. Encourage players to take a shielding position with opposing players while being open to the ball and quickly return the ball to the supporting player to a get a first pass completed. 3. Encourage players to try to use weighted air balls to break coverage forward.
Progression: 1. Allow support players to move up to half on the outside of the field in a support position.

Organization: 5 v 5 with one goalkeeper. Pug net to act as goalkeeper on the other net
Instruction: The players will be permitted to play a game with CMSA rules for U11 with our expected practice numbers. Goals that follow a backwards pass with no break in possession are worth 5 goals.
Coaching Points: 1. Reinforce remaining open to the ball and direction of intended travel to receive passes with a forward touch. 2. Reinforce shielding and backwards passing as an option to maintain possession.
Cooldown & Session Debrief: Review main points of the session during post game stretch: 1. Body positioning to receive pass 2. Communication of where a player wants the ball by pointing. 3. Feints and runs to get open.

Instructions:
Red #1 will run from point 1 to point 2 at the middle cone. Red #2 will deliver a ball to Red #1 at the middle cone. Red #1 will control the ball by facing to one side and looking to control the pass with their forward foot. Then they will pass the ball with the back foot to Red #3 who will leave it beside them. Red #1 will run to the 3rd cone and restart the process by passing in the other direction. Coach will demo receiving on the front foot from behind. The middle cone is treated as an opposing player.
Coaching Points: 1. Encourage the players to keep their back to the "opposing player", but be open to both their anticipated direction of travel and the ball. 2. Encourage the players to communicate and ask for the ball on their preferred side. Progressions: None
