Description

Building off last weeks session on possession we will now visit the attacking unit of the 7,11,10,9 and reinforcing the attributes from previous topics covered during the program that will make them successful.

we will achieve this by focusing on the individual roles of each player in comparison to were they are on the field and what type of support, movement and decision making they will need not only to keep possession but more importantly be an attacking threat going forward.

Passing & First touch Warm UP (10 mins)

Organization

20x30

12-16 players per grid set up two grids if numbers and space allows

half the players with the ball half without

6-8 two cone stations around the outside

Instructions

-players with the ball must dribble around in the middle of the grid and perform a move of coaches choice while keeping their head up and looking for a pass to a player coming from the cones

-the players who pass the ball must aim straight at the receiver to apply semi apposed pressure forcing the reciver to take a touch into space.

-players without the ball will performing different steps of coaches choice 5 reps then looking to receive a pass from the inside players to start doing the moves.

-the rounds will last 1 minute in the rounds the players will perform one move and one cone step change the move and step every round until the players have completed 4 of each.

Progression

-when a player in the middle now makes eye contact with a player on the outside edge they must chip the ball into their hands and serve it to the out side player aerially in order for them to take their first touch into the grid with a different surface.

-Add two defenders to the middle grid they must try to steel the balls and transition through any blue gate

Activator goal scoring mentality (10 mins)

Organization

-20x 30 grid

-10-16 players

-every player with a ball

Instructions

Activity

-have 4 teams 1 in each corner

-the players will need to dribble into the middle square take a prep touch out and shoot at the opposite side goal

-they will then collect their ball and move to the back of the line of the goal they shot in.

-how many goals can you score in 1 minute rounds

3v2 Roles of the 1st attacker

-Attackers vs Defenders 3v2 to Pug goals for a point, if the defence steels they can transition to opposite gates for a point.Game starts with a pass from the middle player.

- attackers in teams of 3 and select two permanant defenders and swap every couple of rounds to keep them fresh

-Using the coaching points below the coach must teach the roles of the 1st attacker ,using stoppages in the game to paint the picture to the players and advise them on what will make them more successful in this role.

Coaching Points

1st attacker – Penetration vs Possession

-Looking to penetrate as the first thought

-Head up to see 3rd line (player finding passing lane) and play vertical passes

-Patience in build up play if they cant penetrate then play sideways

-Do I play to feet or space? -

-Weight of pass to move defenders to create lanes

-Disguise of pass to play through the lines

-Isolate defenders using intelligent runs

2nd attacker (9) – Supporting angles to open lanes

-Recognition of 3 lines (my role to open gap)

-Quickness and quality of movement (short, choppy steps, on toes – ready to receive)

-Checking of shoulder as they open gap and as ball travels (read movement of defenders / attackers)

-Body shape o Quality of touch (angle / distance – do I drive or play quickly?)

-Quality of next movement

2nd attacker (7/11)– Supporting angles to receive

-When to move - Recognition 1st attacker need support and early movement (as ball travels)

-Where to move (angle to receive). Deep or as wide as possible?

-Movement away (long) to create team space

-Can I check back to receive the ball?

-Drifting away as ball travels whilst still seeing the ball and leaving space open you want to move into

-Recognition teammate is going to pass (visual cue – head up, head down / player in possession is about to be under pressure)

-Quality and timing of run to receive when checking into space (how is the defender affected, not coming too deep into 2nd attacker’s line)

-Decision to make diagonal or straight runs in behind / Onside tactics
