Session Aim
Looking to get greater clarity within the following three outcomes from the session:
1. When to play the switch of play pulled opponent across
2. How we can set the switch up i.e. we really want the pass forward to set backas this not only draws across but also "pins" the opposition arond the ball Most important outcome for the session
3. Type of delivery. That this needs to be flater and get to the WB quicker, not looped
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Process
- 4v4 game (or equivlant) - try to group positionally relevent players together
- wider than longer pitch
- defending team can only defend within one vertical grid of the ball
- to score you must carry the ball over the end line
Scoring
- Wide areas are worth 3 points
- Central area is worth 1 point
Coaching
- decision making to attack and maximise scoring opportunities
- positioning of the team in possession
- technical detail around the pass
Pitch Size
30 x 36
Timing
3x4 min games

Aim
- Functional practice have players within relevant positions
Process
- teams of 5 plus the wide players (WBs)
- Players not working are with Andrea doing S&C block
- Players need to play a minimum number of passes (5) then deliver a switch of play to the opposition wide player
- 2 Attackers then join the attack for the cross plus the opposite wingback
- 2 Defenders can drop
- If the cross is defended then defending team work the ball back into the central area (frst pass in is free)
Coaching Points
- Working with the wingbacks and their delivery
- Strikers attacking movement. In particualr getting front post run and cut back option and positioning along with the recognition of the non ballside WB to attack the back post area
- Working with the defenders who drop to defend the cross
- Specficailly the reaction to drop and the positioning when they do. In particular do they defend the near post area
- Reaction of the attackers to prevent the ball being cleared
- Pass detail /construction to set up the ability to switch
Pitch Sizing
- 2/3 of pitch
Timing
3 x 6 min games
Progression
- Expect that the defending team block the crosses and avoid defending centrally therefore allow an up back and through centrally to allow for a goal. Give extra goals for a cross rather than this
S & C
- Andrea you would have the extra team who are not playing within this phase if numbers dont allow this to happen then we will do the S&C aspect at the end of the session
- Area to work within would be approx the pen box and width of the field
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Process
- Players seperated into 2 teams - shape of 252 or 342).
- Ball must be back in play within 5 seconds of going out
- Use full width of the pitch, no throw ons
Rules
- Can only defend within one vertical grid of the ball iif you are caught defending too wide when the ball is switched then you are frozen until the next turnover
- Offsides are in play
Scoring
- Goal scored from a switch of play within the attacking half +3
- 10 passes within the attacking half (use at least two zones) worth +1
- Normal goal +1
Coaching
- Reinforce the aims of the session to start with
- Coaching Blocks address pointers within the 2 min rest period between sets
Pitch Size
- 2/3 of Pitch to full length dependong on numbers
Timing
3 x 8 min blocks with 2 min rest
Teams
- Make sure that the WBs are all in seperate teams
- Group Players

- Second ball played for first time finish
- if they dont score one of the attempts then strikers sprint back
Timing
2 x 4 min blocks
Coaching
- CDM supporting under and receiving to be able to switch out
- WB touch and choice of delivery
- CM getting on different lines to the CF
