Nuno Rosa Speed, coordination and awareness (30 mins)
Speed, coordination and awareness
It’s a race
You can score points; there is an element of competition, Serves as a template to develop FUNdamentals of movement
Set up:
30X20yards area marked by yellow cones 4-defenders in BLUE 1 player for each 4 yellow cones and 4 more blue cones 5 yards away from the yellow cones
8-Attackers in RED 4 on each side on the corridor 6 balls on each side
Part 1 of the explanation
Inside the area marked with yellow cones each Defender player marked in BLUE has 4 cones 5 yards away from the yellow cones. When the coach says “go” the Blue players run and fetch the blue cones and place them over the yellow cones, turning the area from yellow to blue.
Part 2 of the explanation
At the same time the Attackers in RED, run to the opposite end of the pitch get a ball and on the way back run to the area highlighted and place the ball in that zone before sprinting and end the run when they started.
(give instructions of when the second RED player can start their run)
The competition ends only when the 1st defender in BLUE finished to turn his cones, that defender will win against the other defenders. It will also end against the attackers in RED but the winners’ team on the REDs will be the ones who have the most number of balls in the drop zone
PROGRESSION:
Make it easier- reduce space or the area to make the runs smaller or quicker
Challenge players- make the runs longer so we can look at speed and changes of pace
Get the attackers to move in a given way (skipping etc…)
Make the attackers when they drop the ball in the Zone to escape through a gate guarded by the defender in Blue without been tag
Make the Defenders change the cones further to the opposite side of the practice so you can check speed, coordination, and awareness for both sides as it will be use of the same space with the ball and without.
DO NOT FORGET TO ROTATE ALL THE PLAYERS SO EVERYONE CAN HAVE A GO AT IT
