Description

The goal of this session is to work on the player's 1v1 abilities, small group attacking and defending, as well as decision making in a larger game setting. 

Phase 1: 1v1 exercise to liven spirits and get players ready to go

Phase 2: 1-2-3 game for players to be in small group attacking situations with plenty of ball interactions on and off it

Phase 3: Hot box works a team's ability to switch the point of attack and attack

Warm-Up: 1v1s (10 mins)

Org.: 2 teams of equal amount inside 18 yard box

Obj.: Half players with ball, half without. On coach's signal, players play 1v1 for duration of the round, protecting the ball and attempting to win the ball if they don't have one. Only one defender per attacker, Team with the most balls in their possession wins the round

Prog.: N/A

Lim.: 8 x 1 min. rounds

Coach Pts.:

Lay. 1: Three S's when dribbling - Skill, speed, strength

Lay. 2: Eyes up - where can I get away?

Lay. 3: Keep the ball on the furthest foot away from defender

Focus: Warm-up and liven the player's spirits, dribbling, and winning the ball back/tackling

1-2-3 Game (20 mins)

Org.: 2 teams, 4 goals inside of the 18 yard box

Obj.: Coach calls our number (1-2-3) and players send out that number of players from each side to play to the mini-goals. First team to 10 goals wins the round.

Prog.: Start with 1v1 & 2v2s; 2. Can only score once they get past halfway

Lim.: Time rounds to see if they go over. (NO MORE THAN 20 MINUTES)

Coach Pts.:

Lay. 1: Beat player to shoot or pass

Lay. 2: Create space for player with the ball (spread out) - wide & high

Lay. 3: Good support angles - be in the light of the player with the ball

Lay. 4: Quick Decisions** (may not be there yet)

To improve 1v1 duels & decision making in small numbers

Hot-Box (30 mins)

Org.: 35Wx40L; 5x5 box in the middle; 2 teams, no GK

Obj.: Teams look to score in the mini-goals while being able to maintain possession whilst not playing through the middle.

Prog.: 1. From each team must be out there when their team has the ball

Cond.: Players CANNOT enter the hot box, only the ball can pass through

Lim.: 4 x 6 min.

Coach Pts.:

Lay. 1: Spread out - space in wide areas

Lay. 2: Switch the attack when path is blocked - disadvantage of #s

Lay. 3: #'s will be out wide

Lay. 4: Use the whole field

Focus: Players look to switch the point of attack when building to goal
