Colored Cones Warm Up
Organization:
Players will work in a scrimmage sized grid with gates set up around the grid. the gates are placed about one yard apart with each cone being a different color. All gates must use the same two colors. One soccer ball will be placed inside of the gates.
Instructions:
The players will take an active stance at the gate opening and await the coach to say a color cone, which they will then side shuffle to, touch the top of, and then go back to the middle. the coach can also give a double or triple command which has two or three cone colors to get the players to think. After they master the cones "draw" will be the next command. Where the players try to put their foot on top of the ball in the middle and quickly draw it back.
Coaching Points:
Keeping head up to see colors and ball
Reacting to directions correctly
Progressions:
Coach can also add in the commands:
Switch (players shuffle around the cones and exchange places with each other)
Right and left (instead of cone colors)
Three, Five, Ten (toe touches on the ball)
Players can also start facing away from the cones for more of a challenge
