One of the important aspects of implementing Rondos within our training regiment is to ensure it is done with our playing style and tactical plans in mind within a limited amount of space to recognize where the space is to attack. This Rondo works with the midfield 3 on two different aspects. It introduces the ability to make decisions on playing forward behind/between the opponents and if denied forward play to switch the play to the opposite (weak) side.

Rondo 3vs3+2N - MDF 3 Switch/Forward Play
An area of 20 yds, with a minimum of 10 players divided into 2 equal teams. The objective is to keep possession within a triangle shape within the square.
The aim is to keep the triangle overload shape at all times despite being free to move in any direction within the square. The players in possession are trying to discover how to play forward passes behind/between the opponents. If they are pressured and prevented from playing forward then they must solve the problem on how to switch the play and to whom as quickly as possible.
In this example the Red are working on Switching the Play while the Blue are working on playing Forward.
#11, starts with the ball and passes to the #8. (#8/10 are looking to create length as #7/11 are creating width). As the ball is travelling the #6 shows into a good position (ball at feet and can not be intercepted) underneath to support the play and switch the play out wide to #7 who plays to #10 to recycle the play.
Transition is another element to decision making and when the Blue team wins possession they are looking to play forward and create width in midfield..
A time limit of 2 minutes before stopping play to make corrections or provide feedback. This will allow for high intensity for 180 seconds. (Can be changed to 4 minutes)
Coaching Points:
Dispersal - Use as much of the space available to make the defender run. Create length if you are the Red team in possession. Width if you are the Blue team in possession.
Angle of Support - always create and maintain a triangle shape. Open body to see majority of the field (left and right) and receive the ball on your front foot to move.
Distance - make sure you position yourself where the defender can not mark two attackers
Passing - make safe side passes where only your teammate can receive the ball; pass to the foot away from the defender
First touch - is the ability to control the ball in your personal space in front of you
Touch Direction - is the ability to take their first touch away from pressure or eliminate the opponent to link to their next action
Tempo - the pace of the ball means to make the ball travel fast enough not to be intercepted but controllable
Timing - Players off the ball should be anticipating a move to support the player on the ball when the ball is travelling
Good Position - is where you can receive the ball at your feet but it can not be intercepted
