Technical First Touch and Passing Warm Up20 mins

5 MINS PER PROGRESSION

1st (Left) - 2 balls with the end players, player in the middle checks in and bounces off each ball. Focus on weight of pass and meeting the ball in front.

1B - End players have ball in their hands, bring it down first then play it back.

2nd (Middle)- 1 ball, middle player checks in to recieve and bounces off to same player. Then check to the side whilst the ball goes long to the other outside player, then middle player switches sides to repeat. Mention timing of the run, delay until pass gets there to remain unmarked

3rd (Right)- First player on the 1st cone plays the ball across, begins run into the middle. Checks to the side, recieves on back foot and plays with front. Let players figure out playing back front, benifits being the ball is played quicker.

2v2+1 Rondo25 mins

Organisation

  • 2v2 in each box plus neutrals
  • You must always stay in the box you start in, except the neutrals who may always move anywhere
  • When a team transfers the ball 3 times without losing it they get a point
  • Game is first to three, since this is a pre season session, the losing team must do a physical punishment for 1 minute while the others rest
Coaching Points
  • Constantly trying to open up passing lanes by sharp, clever movements
  • Timing of movement, arrive into space as the ball is being passed
  • Positional rotation, make it hard for the defenders to pick up movement
Progressions
  • Limit touches to force quicker movements
  • Add minimum passes before transferring

5v5(+1) Murder Ball with Permanant GK20 mins

Organisation

  • Regular 5v5(+1) scrimmage to goals
  • If the ball goes out the coach throws a new ball in and play starts immediately
  • The team on the outside must go and get the ball and get it back to the coach. The coach only has 3 balls, if at any point they run out there is a punishment for all players
  • Once a goal is scored, the team that scored it get the same ball out of the goal and attack the other side. The team that conceded are off and must complete a full sprint lap of the field being played on. The team that was off comes on to play.
Coaching Points
  • Maximise the space being used
  • Create passing lanes - can we move quickly and sharply to create passing opportunities?
  • Find new shape quickly when possession turns over
  • Can we dictate the speed of play? Play quick away from pressure, but slow things down when necessary
  • The game because quick and frantic - important we keep our composure in these situations.
  • Neutral means the in possession team always has numbers up - can we utilise that to retain possession?
