Set Up:

  • Players: 10-12
  • Grid size: 22m x 25m

Explanation:

  • To score a point, the attacking team must always have at least one player in each of the two halves of the field and a player must receive the ball in the scoring zone before passing through either of the gates.
  • The defending team is not restricted to any zone.

Progression: 

  • If the attacking team switches the play from one half to the other and then scored a point the goal is worth 3.

Set Up:

  • Players: 10-12 
  • Grid Size: 25m wide (5m Wide Channels) x 30m long 

Explanation: 

  • The aim is for the team in possession of the ball to have one player receive the ball in a wide channel before scoring in the small goal. Once a player has received the ball in the wide channel they have 3 touches. 
  • Defenders are not allowed to go into the wide area but must attempt to block passes into the middle zone. 

Team task: To create width and depth when in possession of the ball and score a goal

Coaching Points: 

  • Can you ensure as a team you maintain good shape with width and depth
  • As soon as your team wins the ball can you make the field big
  • Can you switch the point of attack to take advantage of the width on the opposite side
  • Can you look to play your team's deepest player as a first option 

    • Step up:  

    • Reduce grid size
    • Add two touch limit 
    • Introduce pass limit to play a pass into a player in the wide channel
    Step down: 
    • Increase grid size 
    • Make wide channel bigger

    • Players: 10-12
    • Grid Size: 22m x 28m with small goals at each end.

    Explanation: 

    • 5v5 or 6v6 free game
    • Play restarts from coach or from the back

    Key Session Observations:

    • Training game is there to give the opportunity to players to PLAY FOOTBALL whilst applying the learning from the first components of the session. 
    • Assess how much 'teaching and learning has taken place
