Organisation:
10 x 10 yd area.
Players split into two teams.
One cone at one corner (attackers start point)
2 cones 5 yards apart at the other end (goal)
Instructions:
Play 1 v 1 with attacker attempting to run through the gate whilst defender attempts to tag the attacker.
The attacker has 5 seconds to get through the goal.
Swap roles.
Progression:
Add a football or the attacker to dribble.
Coaching points:
Body shape side on to be able to change direction quickly.
Change of speed & direction to block attackers line.
Awareness of attackers movements

Organisation:
Area 20 x 20 yds
2 cones 5 yards apart in each corner.
Players split into 4 groups.
Balls.
Instruction:
Defender (Gray) passes the ball to Attacker (Red).
Attacker attempts to score by dribbling through any of the gates on the Defender’s line.
Defending player attempts to win possession of the ball to score by dribbling through the gates on the Attackers line.
Players swap roles.
Progression:
Play 2 v 2.
Coaching points:
Speed of approach & angle when closing down
Slow down the last yard & be ready for any quick moves or tricks by opponent
Body shape - angled & use of arms for balance/blocking
Acceleration to close down
Deceleration to slow down when approaching defender
Balance & proprioception to be in a position to challenge for the ball
Feet & hip coordination
Agility.

Organization:
2 small goals, 2 teams, 30 x25yd grid
Instructions:
1. 2 Players from each team step out. Coach plays ball in. 2v2 towards goal. 2. If team scores they stay on. Ball goes out both teams off.
Coaching Points:
Press/Cover. Force away from goal. 2. Loud & Clear Communication.

- As above, 4 team 4v4 winners stay on rotation
- 2 minutes games max, if no goals are scored then both teams are off
Instructions:
- 6 mins x unlimited touches
- 6 mins x two touch
- 6 mins x one touch

- Movement from throw-ins to maintain possession
- Qulaity in possession - Play quick but don't rush

Organisation:
20 x 20 yd square
Players in pairs
Instruction:
On coaches whistle the attacker has 20 seconds and 1 change of direction to lose the defender and run out of the area. Defender attempts to tag attacker before leaves the area.
Swap roles.
Progression:
Allow attacker 2 changes of direction.
Add a footballl for the attacker to dribble.
Coaching points:
Touch tight to attackers.
Body position to be able to change direction quickly.
Change of speed & direction to block attackers line.
Awareness of attackers movements
