Defending Corner Kick- Set piece
Set up: Player 1 will take the far post and player 4 will stand on the near post. Both of these players will work on protecting the keeper from the attacking players. Player 2 will need to stand 10 yards from the kicker. Player 3 will need to stand at an angle at the near corner of the box. Player 5 will protect the front of the goal so player 4 can remain on the post. Players 6 and 7 will clog the middle of the box. Player 8 will position in the back of the box to collect any long balls and player 9 will stand at the top of the box to collect any crosses to the middle. Player 10 will remain toward the 50 yard line and position themselves in front of any of the opposing team's defense who tries to make a short run.
Coaching Points:
Player 2 will need to quickly get to their position. They will need to be aware when the ball goes out and make sure that a short pass doesn't occur. Player 2 should begin by trying to stand right on top of the ball and then wait for the ref to ask them to back up. This will slow the play down and allow for other players to get to their positions.
Player 4 and player 1 should be taller players, but not be taller than the goalkeeper to block their view. They will need to find their positions quickly as well to make sure they can be prepared for a quick long ball into the middle.
The other players in the diagram will need to position their bodies goalside of the attacking players and commit to protecting their zones.
Player 8 will defend the back portion of the box against any long balls that fall there.
Players 6 and 7 will protect the middle of the box and angle their bodies away from the goal to kick any crosses out of the danger zones.
Player 10 will need to be prepared to defend against a short run that an outside back might make during the corner.
Player 9 will need to be aware of any balls that come into the middle and outside the top of the box.

Quick Corner Set Piece
Set Up: Player 1 will take the kick and it will be a short pass. Player 2 will be the last defender and will hold the line at the 50 yard line. This player will act as the last line of defense and will only be involved in the play if the ball needs to be collected and distributed back into the field of play. Player 3 should be an outside back who will make the run to receive the short pass. Player 4 will take the near post and position themselves in front of the keeper. This will be a taller player on the team to create an obstacle for the keeper. Players 5-7 will position themselves close to the front of the box close together so they can separate quickly and draw their defenders into chaos. Player 8 will be at the top of the box to run onto the ball when it is played into the box. Player 9 will be at the back post and player 10 will be at the top of the box.
Corner Set Piece
Player 1 will quickly grab the ball and place it for the kick. All players will need to run to their position immediately and face the ball. When player one drops their hand, player 3 will make a run to the ball and player 1 will pass it to them. Player 3 will play the way they face and turn toward the goal. As soon as player 1 passes the ball, players 5-7 will peel off of each other and take a place in the middle of the box, at the outside of the box and in player 3's original position. Player 3 will pass the ball to player 8 at the top of the box or to the player who runs into the middle of the box.
Coaching Points: Player 1 will need to quickly grab the ball and set up. Player 3 will need to be aware when the corner happens and player 1 calls for the play. Players 5-7 will need to communicate with each other as to who will be running to what spot on the field. Player 4 will need to move around in front of the goalkeeper to create chaos with the defense. Players will need to continue to move in their area to force their defenders to take their eyes off the play and be unprepared for the service. Players should look to players 8 and the other player who makes the run to the center to pass the ball. Player 2 will need to be involved if the ball comes out of the box. The coach should instruct player 2 and player 1 to remain involved in the play, but also look to provide support in the back to be somewhat defensive still.
