Ball arrives at wide outside back as quickly as possible to ensure we have the space available to get this one working.
Center mid moves towards outside back, ready to hit first touch in behind opposite defensive line (must be comfortable on left foot if it is over that side).
Once Outside back takes touch, Wide Forward separates themselves from opponent marker 3/4 steps towards the ball, and takes off to run in behind opponents defensive line. Run must be faster than opponent is moving.

Ball from CM must travel good distance for our forwards to run onto. Can be striker that receives through ball if that becomes better option and they are making the better run.
Winger or striker runs onto ball. 1v1 with the goalkeeper is the aim, but we can find opposite winger or striker if cross is the option.
Team moves up the field to keep distances between DF, MF, FW consistent.
Key Points -
- Set up outside backs wide
- Quality of possession to get outside back the ball in 40-50% of the field (space for CM to move into also). Must happen quickly.
- Winger separating themselves from marker. Opens up space for them to run into at speed.
- Quality of 'set' pass from outside back so CM can hit first time, and quality of through pass that Winger knows is coming. Pass it to be firm and flat, not floaty and high.
- Finish the attack upon success of above.

Set up on field
Set up - ball in possession in our half (with right center back in this diagram. Green box player must be confident and a good striker of the ball (left foot for left back, right foot for right back). Outside backs must be wider than the lines of the 18.
We find an outside back who must be in space to bring ball down and play a good pass on the ground before any pressure arrives. Early good positioning important for them. Wide forwards must be on the sideline if the ball comes down their side.
