Light Pre-Game Session 75 minutes.
Here we are working from simple to complex.
Session Organization:
Technical Passing Warm up:
Continuing to work on our technical abilities and body position as it is an area of weakness for us. It's tough to coach defending in groups when we kill possession on our own due to technical errors.
3v1 Rondo:
Getting some technical work in as it relates to the warm up, while reintroducing the concepts of how we defend. 1.) Denying the ball in behind us, 2.) Making play predictable 3.) Forcing a mistake as we close down the ball.
2v2 to Targets:
This exercise gives our attackers more technical work, while providing our defenders with an exercise to work on transitioning from 1st to 2nd defender, and defending as a group to deny the penetrating pass.
4v4 to targets plus a Striker:
Here I chose to have our players work in groups they would normally defend with. Our Midfielders defending and attacking as a group for and our defenders on the back line doing the same.
I added in a striker to better simulate needing to screen out that player as well as other targets behind our lines of organization.
Full Field Walk Through
I modified the final exercise due to our technical limitations and fatigue to a walk through of how and where we would defend.

3v1/4v1 Rondo
Coaching Points:
Take away the deepest option (Deny Penetration)
Take away half of the space
Make the game predictable
Wait until the opposition makes a mistake, shows you the ball to win it.
Attacking Reminders
Keep the ball moving
Eliminate the defender
Play to and with the correct foot (Open up)

2v2 to Targets:
Attackers are trying to play to the opposite side of of grid in a directional but non continuous rondo.
Defenders are working on denying the ball throw as well as proper transitions and shape as it relates to defending in pairs.
Restrictions:
Defenders may not steal the ball from the attackers except when they win a pass.
Coaching:
Defenders Get tight first, and take away the ball behind us.
Communicate
Pressure v Cover and 1st vs 2nd Attacker.
Angle of support and body position of 2nd attacker
Immediate transition to support from 1st to 2nd defender when the ball travels.
Always face the ball.
We want to funnel play inside to our help.
Bend defensive runs to close space.

4v4 to Targets plus a ST.
Restrictions - Defenders may not go beyond the set of cones in the middle of the grid until the specified number of passes are completed.
Coaching Points:
Defenders need to get tight first to deny the option of a ball being played in behind the defending group.
Proper transition and shape as the ball travels (Pressure, Cover, Balance)
Proper angles and body position.
We want to make play predictable, and wait for the opportunity to win the ball when they show it to us.
Attacking Reminders
- Can we combine to get inbehind (Overlap an option on each side of the ball, or a triangle to isolate a defender with a give and go)
- Keep the ball moving,
- Always looking to penetrate.
