Play (15 mins)

Objective: Welcome players and give them space to play

Instructions: Set up a clear field, with clear boundaries and allow the kids to make their own rules

Key words: Hi, welcome. Jump in, Figure it out. Ask someone

Guided Questions: 1.Did the team agree on a formation? 2.How can you help your team when you have the ball?

Answers: 1.Yes, we're playing .... 2. By luring defenders in and creating space for my teammates.

Practice 1 (25 mins)

Objective: Work on improving controlling and receiving the ball

Set up: Set up as many stations as needed. Progress from simple to complex.

Instructions: Exercise 1, players are static and work on receiving the ball with various parts of the foot. Exercise 2, only 1 player moves after the pass. Exercise 3, both players move in various directions after a pass.

Key words: Two touch, control the ball before passing it, pass it to the correct foot/space

Guided Questions: 1. How can we set ourselves up to receive the ball? 2. Why do we call for the ball? 3. How can a good pass help our teammate?

Answers: 1.By staying relaxed, engaged and ready to receive the ball. 2. In order for our teammates to know we're open or in a good position to receive the ball. 3. It sets them up for a good touch, and can set them up for a good move or play.

Practice 2 (25 mins)

Objective: Work on improving controlling and receiving the ball

Set up: Set up as shown. The yellow team is trying to get from gate A to gate B.

Instructions: While the team on the court works on keeping possession of the ball, progression 1, the yellow player tags anyone on the white team, and sprints to the gate. Next yellow player steps in. Progression 2, the yellow player must tag the white player on the ball. Switch roles. Make it competitive by timing the game and having teams beat their score.

Key words: Find space, play quickly, move when you don't have the ball

Guided Questions: 1. Where do I move to? 2. How do I lure the defender? 3. How do I open up?

Answers: 1. Move to open space. Communicate with your teammates in order to not be in each others way. 2. When in possession of the ball, hold the ball until the last second, and make a pass to a teammate or change your speed and make a move into space. 3. Always look at the ball, keeping your hips facing the ball and open field.

Set up: Set up a full FUTSAL game

Instructions: Using FUTSAL rules, play a game with minimal coaching.
