In Posession

In Posession Mexico looked to play balls down the outside of Germanys full backs looking to utilise the pace of the front three 18 Guardado, 14 Hernandez and 7 Layun.

When balls played into these areas opposite wingers would stay on the outside of ful backs also for a longer ball delivery and to aid space for Hernandez and joining midfielders most notably 11 Vela to join in.

Within general play also looked to maintain posession in defence and midfield looking to get Hernandez to drop in to recieve which was also the trigger for 22 Lozano, 11 Vela and 7 Layun to all go beyond with real pace.

Out of Posession

Did a high final third press through out the game.

Central Midfield players looked on and followed three German central midfielders in who were trying to win the ball.

The only option un marked that Germany had was one of the two central defenders.

Once they entered near the half way line with the ball the nearest winger depending what side would go and engage the ball blocking off the passing line to his opposite full back. 11 Vela would also do this if central defenders stepping inside.

Mexico followed runners and very rarely passed on.

Transitions to Attack

Transition from defence to attack was always as quick as possible looking to break and play forward.

Front four in Lozano, Vela, Hernandez and Layun would all break at incredible pace once possesion regained looking to exploit Germany.

Player driving with the ball would alwyas look to mainain run centrally with two widest going on the outside of full backs and Hernandex or hghest forward pulling onto opposite centre half and driving in.

During these transitions at pace holding two midfielders stayed as did back four.

Transitions to Defence

Transition to defence would start with initial high press as shown previously in out of posession.

But once Germany gained comfortable posession, Mexico would retreat to mid block press behind the half way line.

Side would be locked onto opponents and press high looking them to play back to free centrre half usually Boateng.

The only player that wasnt locked on was Germany full backs when opposite centre half had posession as Layun 7 or 22 Lozano would narrow in.
