Quick Passing and Combination Play

Organisation
Cones 20 yards apart players are in a group of 6 forming a triangle
Instruction
Player 1 passes to Player 2 who plays a return pass to Player 1 at new position.
Player 1 plays a return pass to Player 2 who has took up a new position.
Player 2 passes to Player 3 who has timed his run approx 5 yards of the cone. Player 2 follows the pass and receives a return pass from Player 3.
Player 2 passes to the second Player (1) who passes to Player 3 who has made a arc timed run.
Player 3 passes to Player (1). Sequence of passing starts over again.
Progression
Players follow their passes and take up position at next cone.
Add a second ball starting at player 3 arced run position.
Coaching Points
1) Timing of th epass is key, making sure the ball is played ahead of the next player to run onto.
2) The player should check away with an open body shape before moving to receive the pass.
3) Passes should be of high speed and accurate.
4) Make sure the player communicate with teammates and heads are up.

Organisation
20 x 20 grid split into 4 clearly marked 10 x 10 squares.
Instruction
4 V 2 attacking reds to keep possesion of the ball, defending blues try to win possesion.
Each of the 4 attackers must always be in seperate squares and whenever they pass the ball they must move into another square.
Players to pass from 1 to 4 and then their movement.
Coaching Points
1) Game awareness - where is the ball, where the players, who is in your square.
2) Positioning - Am I in a square of my own and am I in a position to receive the ball.
3) Receiving - Can I receive the ball with an open body to see the whole game environment.
4) Passing - Can I deliver my pass with the correct weight and direction.
5) Movement - Can I pass and then move into another position to receive the ball.
6) Communicate - Hide, hold, man on, one-two, bounce, round the corner etc...

Organisation
The fuctional drill area is split into 6 squares measuring 10 x 10 yards.
Instruction
The attacking red team have passes and instructions forcing them to move into specific positions. See the Players passing from 1 to 5 and the movement.
In the example above Player 1 passes across and moves across to cover. Player 2 passes diagonally to Player 3 and goes on a overlap run. Player 3 passes forward to player 4 who switches the ball to Player 5 to strike.
Coaching Points
1) Game awareness - where is the ball, where the players, who is in your square.
2) Positioning - Am I in a square of my own and am I in a position to receive the ball.
3) Receiving - Can I receive the ball with an open body to see the whole game environment.

Instruction
The attacking red and blue team have to pass, move and create chances. Each of the 5 attackers must always be in seperate squares and whenever they pass the ball they must move into another square.

Instruction
Player 1 plays a long ball to Player 2, the second player at Position (1) times his run to receive the ball from Player 2 (must be in front of the pole).
Second palyer (1) now passes to 3, again 3 times his run / movement off the cone. Player 3 plays a return pass to Player (1) and Player (1) plays a pass to the second player at Position (3). Player (3) passes to the second Player at Position(2). Player (2) plays a return pass to Player (3) , Once Player(2) has played the pass he turns and takes a new position around the pole and receives a return pass from Player(3). Player (2) passes to Player (1) and sequence of play starts again.
Progression
Players to move to the next cone when they have completed the pass.
Introduce a second ball at position 3 Player(3) trigger to play is when Player 2 has passed to Player(1).
Coaching Points
1) Players should move to meet the ball to increase the speed of play.
2) Open body shape - half turned and receive / pass with the back foot.
3) Runs need to be timed well when creating space and should be done at pace.
4) Make sure the players communicate with teammeates and heads are up.
