SSG - Dribbling skills
Set up
40 x 30 metre pitch
30 x 6 metre end zones at each end
5 metre corner zones marked out with different corners in the end zones
12 players (6 blue / 6 red)
Spare balls in each corner to speed up play
Organisation
Two teams of 6 play against each other and try to dribble the ball into the other teams end zone to gain a point.
Progressions
1. When a player succesfully dribbles into the other teams end zone, they keep possession and play the other way until ball is lost.
2. Designate a specific corner for each team to dribble into.
3. Set a time players have to get the ball into an end zone or they lose possession.
4. Put a target on the amount of passes before you can get into the end zone, for example 4 passes, to encourage players to run/dribble with the ball more.
Key Points
1. Keep the ball close to your feet.
2. Vary the surfaces of the foot to control the ball (inside/outside/sole)
3. Keep your head up and look where your opposition / team mates are.
4. Look to use change of pace and direction
5. Use a skill to beat an opponent (feint / stepover / etc)
6. Look to pass to a team mate in space so that they can dribble into the end zone and score
