Feint Warm Up Game (15 mins)

Feint Warm Up Game:

The yellow player is the attacker, the red is the defender.

The yellow player is trying to get away from the defender, and beat them to the end line of one side of the cones.

The yellow player can change direction, speed, as often as they like while in the central channel. Once they leave that central area, they can not change direction and must cross the end line.

The aim is the deceive the defender and create space/separation.

CP:

  • Change of pace
  • Change of direction
  • Be light on toes
  • Show intent to commit the defender
  • Cross step / jab step
    • when? why:?

P1:

Give the attacker OR both players a ball. They must keep control of the ball while playing.

Adds the element of ball manipulation, control, and spatial awareness.

1v1+1 (2v2+2) (35 mins)

Game: 1v1 Half Court

  • Game starts with Yellow passing to their teammate. 1v1 in half court, players are not allowed to use their teammates or go to the other side of the court.
  • Aim is for the attacking team to score. If the defending team win possession, they can score.
  • Players rotate after each attempt.
CP:
  • Players should have a 45* angle before receiving. Look to face forward as much as possible when taking first touch.
  • If players  are close to the sideline, drag the ball down with back facing the sideline.
  • First touch with closest foot to the ball
    • If defender inside, step over (orientated control) and go down line where space is
    • If defender blocking line, attack centre of the court (roll inside or orientated control)
  • Players need to see where the defending is approaching from, and make decisions on which typed of touch to use
  • Use of feints to beat the defender
  • Protect the ball when dribbling against the defender (furthest foot from the defender, hips/legs in front of the defender)
Progression:
  • Add a target player into the end. Attacking players can now use these players as bouncers. Bouncers have unlimited touches to begin with, progress to 2 touch. Target players should be mobile along the line. Defending players need to make a decision to block the line pass or focus more on the goal.
CP:
  • Attackers need to see the approach of the defender and make a good decision on how to use their first touch
    • If the defender blocks the line pass, can roll inside
    • If the defender approaches centrally, can use far foot instep or orientated control to attack the line
    • If rushed with no cover, a chip touch is effective
  • Attacking player should look to link up with their target player - body shape will affect the decision making of the defender
Progression 2:
  • Become a 2v2+2, but players still linked to their zones. Defenders now need to think about blocking line, diagonal passes while marking their direct opponent. Changes the angle of approach from each defender.
CP:
  • Same points as above are still relevant

2v2+2 Wide Neutrals (25 mins)

2v2 + 2 Wide Bouncers

Normal 2v2 game. All restarts from GK. Neutral players play on team with possession - 2 touch limited, they can not be tackled.

Attacking players use their team mates to create situations where they can use their Feint skills or win the back of the opponent.

Players also look to use their first touch skills and other individual attack principles in previous session.
