Screen 1 (5 mins)



Setup:

  • Create a small rectangular field (approx. 10 by 14 yards).
  • Place one Pugg goal on each sideline (the shorter sides).
  • Players form two lines on opposite ends (longer sides).
  • Coach stands on the outside middle of one long sideline with a supply of balls.

Instructions:

  • Coach plays a ball into the center of the field.
  • First player from each line races to the ball.
  • Players go 1v1 and try to score in either Pugg goal (they can choose).
  • Once a goal is scored or the ball goes out, players return to their lines and the next two begin.
  • Emphasize speed, decision-making, and dribbling under pressure.

Coaching Points:

  • Encourage quick reaction and decision-making.
  • Support use of feints and turns to beat the defender.
  • Remind players to look up and choose the best goal to score in.

Progressions (Optional):

  • Add a rule: score in the goal furthest from your line.
  • advance to 2 v 1 ( after week 3)

Screen 2 (10 mins)

Setup:

Divide players into small teams (3-5 per line).

Set up an agility course in a straight line:

Ladder – players run through it (one foot per square).

Mini hurdles – players two-foot hop or step over.

Flags or cones – players zigzag through (slalom style).

Place a stack of soccer balls at the end of the course

Each team starts behind their own starting cone at the beginning of the course.

How to Play:

  • On the whistle, the first player in each team runs the course. one line Ladder-one line hurdles-one line flags
  • At the end, they collect one ball from the stack.
  • They dribble the ball back to their line
  • Once they reach their team, the next player goes.
  • Continue until all balls are collected (e.g., 4–5 balls per team).

Winning:

First team to successfully collect and dribble back all balls through the obstacles wins.

Coaching Points:

  • Encourage fast but controlled movement through the obstacles.
  • Dribble with close touches and head up.
  • Teach proper turns around flags and good posture over hurdles.

Variation:

  • Add a small goal at the end and finish with a shot before tagging the next player.

Screen 3 (10 mins)

Ball Mastery in Space

Setup:

  • Create a 20x20 yard grid with cones.
  • Each player has a ball.
  • Space out players so they have room to move freely without collisions
Instructions:
  • Toe Taps (30 sec)
    • Players tap the top of the ball with alternating feet.
    • Keep the ball stationary.
  • Ball Boxes
    • Tap the ball lightly between both feet (inside-inside touches).
  • Dribble in Space (1 min)
  • Players dribble freely inside the grid.

    Encourage using different parts of the foot (inside, outside, sole).

    Avoid other players and cones

    Change of Direction (1 min)

    • On coach’s command (e.g., “Turn!”), players stop and change direction using

  • Freeze Skill (30 sec)
    • On “freeze,” players stop ball with sole and hold still
    • Play Red light, yellow light, green light
    • Leave it and retrieve it.

Coaching Points

  • Encourage eyes up while dribbling.
  • Use both feet.
  • Small, quick touches.
  • Positive reinforcement for effort and control.

Screen 5 (5 mins)

Objective:

Develop ball control and dribbling under pressure in a fun, competitive environment.

Setup:

  • Divide players into equal teams (3–5 per line).
  • Each team lines up behind a starting cone.
  • Place a stack of 5 cones (same color) about 10–15 yards away from each line.

How to Play:

  • On the coach’s whistle, the first player in each line dribbles their ball to the cone stack.
  • They stop the ball, pick up one cone, and dribble back to their line.
  • They drop the cone behind their line and pass.
  • The next player repeats the process.
  • First team to collect all 5 cones wins.

Coaching Points:

  • Keep the ball close while dribbling.
  • Encourage controlled speed, not just fast running.
  • Watch for proper turns and use of both feet.

Variation:

  • Add a second round where players return the cones one by one to the original stack (“Clean It Up – Part 2”).

Screen 6 (5 mins)

Focus: Dribbling, ball control, and finishing

Setup:

  • Set up a square grid using 4 cones (10x10 yards recommended).
  • Place an additional cone in the center of the square.
  • Place a Pugg goal (or small goal) about 5 yards behind each corner cone.
  • Split players evenly into 4 lines, one at each corner cone, each with a ball
How to Play:

  • On the coach’s signal, the first player in each line dribbles their ball to the center cone.
  • When they reach the center, they dribble around cone. 
  • After turning, they dribble back toward their line, then finish with a shot into the Pugg goal behind their cone.

  • The next player goes when the previous player finishes their shot and clears the space.

Coaching points:

  • Close touches when approaching the center cone.
  • Use both feet for turns.
  • Keep eyes up while dribbling.
  • Encourage quick turn and controlled shot into the goal.
Progressions
  • Add a time limit for each round to encourage speed.
  • Use different turns (coach calls it out before the run).
