Activate w/work on Defensive Principles of Play. The focus of the session will be on Counter Pressing. We want the players to focus on, while attacking, to be able to counter press quickly by being in the proper position

5-10-5 Agility Test (15 mins)

Timing gates for the middle. Two sets of cones set out five yards from either side of the gates. A players starts slightly to either side of the gate. On "trigger," the player takes off to the side furthest out, turns, runs to opposite side, turns, then runs through the gate. The players complete two runs, one each from either side of the gate.

Progressive Finishing (20 mins)

An area is set up equivalent to two penalty boxes. One team starts & goes 1v0 and can only shoot from in the box. Once the shot is taken, the next team sends out a player w/a ball for a 1v1, then Team A for 2v1, then Team B for 2v2, etc. After the round is over, Team B starts the sequence. The focus will be on the defending Principles of Play. CP: can we press as quickly as possible?, while pressing are we playing w/composure? are we giving good cover?, are we getting compact?, are we staying balanced? 4 rounds x 1m rest/round

Counter-Pressure Possession Game (25 mins)

We are looking to develop the players ability to apply counter-pressure upon losing possession while quickly transitioning to score when regaining possession. 30x30 yard area divided into four w/mini-goals at each corner. Player are split into 3 teams w/2 teams playing and 1 supporting. The coach starts play by serving to the team in possession "B." "B" tries to maintain possession by circulating the ball Here, Team "D" tries to apply pressure and disrupt the attack. If the pressing team "D" wins the ball, they try to score in one of the counter goals. CP: timing of movement, body position, recognizing ATT's weakness, win back possession quickly, scoring quickly. 2 sets x 3 games/set x 2m/game x 1m rest/game x 2m rest/set. note: can apply restriction of keeping one player in each grid minimum

Two Team Counter-Press Game (20 mins)

Two teams in half field with 2 goals and half line. Possession team starts in opposing half. If they score, they restart play in the opposing half again. If the DEF team wins the ball, they attack as quickly as possible. PR: 1) the team that lost possession can gain a point if they win the ball back before being scored on. 2) The team that wins possession gets 2 points if they score w/in 4 passes. CP: Is the team that lost possession counter pressing? need immediate pressure on the ball, suffocate the ball, protect space behind (counter-press shape). 4 games x 4m/game x 90s rest/game
