RDS (developmental) session:
The moment to turn (pull back and L turn)
With momentum: Pull Back
Without Momentum: L turn
Technical:
* How to preform both moves
* Receiving with front foot
* Head up to see defender
* Rolling defender 1st time
Tactical:
* Do I have momentum or not? Is defender moving?
* Where is the space and how are they defending me?
Phsycial:
* Ability to use body to protect the ball
* Change of direction/change of pace
Pyschosoical:
* Communication by other players on wether to turn or not
* Confidence in taking a player on 1v1

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization:
See figure. Channels are 12Wx20L (if space allows). Small boxes in middle of channel, varing sizes (use for divisions/competion).
Instructions:
Play starts with attacker in square and defender outside of square. Players give each other a hi five and the game is live. Attackers are trying to get out of the square to score in a pugg goal, defenders are trying to win the ball back and score in the counter goal. Rotate attacker to defender to line. Player with the most points in that channel is the winner.
Coaching Points:
- Correct execution of static turns/ changes of direction
- Attack the space, what is the defender giving you? (where is their backside?)
- Use of disguise/ fakes to move defender to open up space where you want to go
- End product (how can you close the door to score?)
Progressions/Regressions:
R) Players get a point for getting out of the box, 3 points for a goal
P) Defenders can now start inside the sqaure
P) Players in line pass into attacker in the sqaure, game is live on the pass (See next activity)

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization: Two to three grids as above. Each grid is 20x20. Coach feeds pass into players to start activity. A 2 yard blue gate at the end of each area as shown (or pugg goal if avalible).
Instructions:
Players make a run around the cone and check back to receive a pass from coach. As soon as the pass has left the coach's foot (or player's foot in progression), the defender can come to try to win the ball back. Players must try to turn around the defender and score for a point. If the defender wins the ball back, they can try to score for a point. Players switch lines after they go.
Coaching Points:
* Checking shoulder to see where the defender is and whether they can open up to get the ball
* Side-on body shape (surfer), to see both ball and defender and to protect ball with body
* Use of defender's momentum against them to preform pull back/drag back
* Cue for drag back: defender is on side/back, with momentum about to cut you off.
* If no momentum, use L turn (must have side of body shape)
Progressions:
P) Add in another attacker, 2v1, second attacker makes pass into first attacker after going around the cone.
*Talk about decision making on whether or not to turn/pass
-Option 1: turn and beat player 1v1
-Option 2: pass and turn to play 2v1 (give and go combination secondary learning outcome)
P) 2v2

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization: As above
Instructions: Players play 3v3, but goals are turned backwards in the final 3rd of each end of the field. Teams try to score in the opposing goal as normal soccer rules
Coaching Points:
1) Prinicples of play: Penetration and possession (secondary is pressure)
2) Checking back for a double pass to get out of pressure or create space to turn
Progressions:
To free play: move goals back to the endline like a normal field

Warmup/juggling/SAQ (20 mins)
Organization: All players with a ball, dribbling inside of smaller sqaure. Large square 30x25 (if possible set up for 40x40). Half players in bibs.
Instructions:
Start with individual juggling game using only feet while coach sets up session.
Move into pinnie tag, Play three rounds of 1 minute games. Talk about body shape to protect the pinnie from being tagged.
Players dribble around the area according to coach's instructions. Start with players looking to 'split' other players within the grid for a point. Play 30 second rounds.
- Introduce drag/pull back turn technique (# of pullbacks in 30 secs)
- Introduce L-turn (static) (# of correct L-turns in 30 secs)
- Number of 'splits', but with a turn once they get between the two other players (count #)
- (Progressions below into semi-opposed/use of body to protect ball to turn)
Coaching Points:
* Correct technical execution of pull/drag back turn
* Correct technical execution of the L-turn
* Use of side on body shape to keep ball as far away from the defender as possible
* Use of arms/eyes to feel and know where the other players are on the field
Progressions:
P) Have players sprint to far box line, then recover a ball (key word: breakout)
P) Remove half the balls, players must recover ball then use their body to protect it. Play for 2 minute rounds. (X2) Teams for each half play against each other to have more memebers of their team protect the most balls from the other team at the end of the round.
