Unopposed final third scenario (15 mins)

  • Organisation
  • Play starts when a player on the half way line plays a wall pass to the player stood in front.
  • The player switches out wide to either flank whilst bursting in the box to get on the end of the cross and tries to finish

Key points

  • Pick the right pass
  • Time the cross well
  • Vary the crosses - drilled, floated, along the floor
  • Be creative with the finishes, Try a first time finish, a feint then finish, draw the keeper out and chip over him, curl in to the corners etc
  • Players must communicate with each other to decide when and where to play the cross

Opposed final third scenario (15 mins)

Organisation

  • Same as the previous screen but this time there is  defender added who starts on the half way line
  • To help create an overload in the final third, this time when the ball is played out to one of the wide players, the wide player on the opposite side can join in the attack

Key points

  • Attackers must be creative in their play, always try different things when attacking
  • Be brave, can the attacker dribble around the defender?
  • Can the attacker receive short and pull the defender out of position, leaving a free space for the wide player?
  • Vary the types of delivery
Use of challenges/targets
  • Extra point for the attacker if they can dribble around the defender
  • Extra point for scoring with a volley/header/first time finish
  • Extra point for scoring with their weak foot
