Pregame warm up. 

Objective - Game Speed / Game Mindset

Everything during the warm up is done with the same mindset we will play the game with. Every thing is done at game speed. 

All will do Dynamic and Circle passing warm up. 

Half will go to shooting, (All attacking players) 

Half will go into 4v4+3 (Defensive & Holding Midfield Players)

Screen 1 (5 mins)

Warm up - 12 minutes

Continuous movement:
  • Light Jog
  • Side Shuffle each way
  • Side to side accelerations (forward and backwards)
  • High knees
  • Heels
Dynamic Movement:
  • High knees
  • Straight legs
  • Hip rotations in
  • Hip rotations out
  • Back leg extensions

Neuro-Prep:

  • Bounding vertically
  • Bounding forward 
  • Accelerate forward two pylons accelerate back one
  • Lateral accelerations in-between red and yellow pylon
  • Lateral accelerations around red and yellow pylon

2. Warm Up- Non directional Warm Up (10 mins)

The Set Up:

  • Split players 50/50
  • One half with the ball on the outside (make a circle), the other inside the circle.
Practice Explanation:
  • Players in the middle run to a player with the ball and perform the following progressions:

- Lateral touch and pass, one via each leg

- Side volleys- Chest, knee, volley

- bounce pass, open out and play fowards. 

Dynamic stretch and mobilisation:
  • Open hips, close hips.
  • hamstring kicks
  • Heal drops- calfs
  • adductors 
  • 6 and 12 rotations. 
Timings: 2 minutes per progression per player. Swap group over every 2 minutes.

4v4+3 (10 mins)

4v4+3 Rondo 

we will play a 4v4 rondo with 3 neutral players Every time a team loses the ball they go from a team of 7 to a team of 4 and must counter press and attempt to win the ball back. 

We will play 5 minute reps and switch the neutrals after each rep. 

Objective - To understand how to find passing lanes, to understand how to counter press and win the ball back.

Finishing from crosses 2 (10 mins)

Repetitive crossing and finishing (10-15 mins)

Play ball out and receive back in middle

Players stay and rotate from inside to outside every 2 mins

Topic: Finishing off Crosses

Activity: Crossing/Finishing inside the box

Set Up: 

  • Players crossing will stay outside until switch
  • Players inside will stay inside and rotate near/far post

Instructions:

  • Players start with the balls outside of the box around the 18 yard line. Player A will cross to 2 players running into the box to finish

Main Technical Coaching Points/Questions

  • INSIDES
  • Toe Up, Heel Down, Ankle Locked
  • Finishing with the insides
  • Timing of run
  • Redirect the ball back where it came

Regressions/Progressions:

  • Start with crosses on the ground
  • Progress to crosses in the air
