Game Objective: Close space: deny the cross and/or cover incoming pass
Topic: Defending Wide Areas
Phase: Protect the Goal
Problem: Attacking team is deep, wide, and threatening to place ball in box
Who: 2,3,4,5,6
Where: Defending Third
When: As they are looking to cross
What: 1) Close down attacker and deny pass. Angle body to push him away from goal 2) Close down receiver by covering him
Why: to protect the goal
Layout: 30x30; 3 channels; 3v3 or 4v4;
Restrictions: Two wide players are netural and must stay in their channels;
Scoring: Scoring: Defense: 1 point for denying pass; 2 points for recovering ball from a cover position. Attacker: 2 points for a completed arial pass.

Restrictions: 2:10:2 Two touch. Arial balls. Every attacker in respective zone much touch the ball before sending over. This will give our defenders more opportunities to deny passes.
Scoring: Defense: 1 point for denying pass; 2 points for recovering ball from a cover position. Attacker: 2 points for a completed arial pass.

Angle body in passing lane to where your cover man is. 2) Close down receiver by covering him 3) Don't Dive 4) Adjust and readjust hips to continue to force play AWAY 5) Central players scanning and adjusting to become goal side of mark 6) Play is finished when ball is cleared. GOALIE: Punch, don't swing
Why: to protect the goal and to clear the ball.
Layout: 20 x 27; 3 channels at 9 paces; no goals
Restrictions: 4v2 or 5v2 Rondo; 3:8:2 Three games of eight minutes each with 2 minute rest. Two touch. Arial balls. Every attacker in respective zone much touch the ball before sending over. This will give our defenders more opportunities to deny passes.
Scoring: Defense: 1 point for denying pass; 2 points for recovering ball from a cover position. Attacker: 2 points for a completed arial pass.
Game: After every attacker in the respective zones touches the ball, they send it to the other side. Two defenders hang out in the middle zone until the ball can be played to other side, then they break on the ball to the empty zone. Progression: the two defenders in the middle work together to provide cover and balance on a cross. Once ball gets to other side, they move into the zone.
