3v1 Transition Rondos (15 mins)

Setup as Shown

Instructions:

2 10x10 boxes are setup roughly 10-15 yards apart.

3 vs 1 in a box with a single player waiting in the opposite box.

Players keep-away, aiming to make 5 consecutive passes without the defender winning possession. If either is achieved (5 passes/defender wins possession), ball is immediately played across to the awaiting player. Defender becomes awaiting player and remains in box. 3 attacking players race to the opposite box, with the last player becoming the new defender.

Progressions:

1. Add attacker (if loss of possession occurs constantly (4v1))

2. 2-touch restriction for attacking players

Coaching Points:

1. First Touch takes you where you want to go (controlled, directional)

2. Check to the ball (don't wait for the ball)

3. Scanning (awareness around the ball)

4. Receiving Technique (toe up, heel down, foot never on the ground).

5. Passing Technique (toe up, heel down, foot never on the ground, standing leg parallel to the ball, balance over the ball).

Passing and Receiving Square and Triangle (15 mins)

Passing and Receiving Square

Set-up as shown

Player A passes into player B who checks toward the cone. Player B lays a wall-pass into the space beyond the cone for player A to receive. Player A plays into player C upon receipt. Player B moves to line C, while player A moves to cone B.

Player C dribbles toward player D, passes and makes run beyond defender (cone)

Continue sequence as player follow their pass.

Progressions:

1. Overlap Pass - instead of having players play a pass and move around the defender, checking player must move toward ball carrier; ball carrier passes and overlaps checking player, and receives on the opposite side.

Coaching Points:

1. Passing & Receiving Techniques (inside, outside, sole)

2. First Touch (when, where and how)

3. Awareness (head-up, eyes up, anticipation)

4. Body Shape (Receiving and passing, open-body to see field).

5. Communication (direction, timing, demanding)
