Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): Arrival activities - waiting for players

Screen 1 (5 mins)

i. Session Organisation

• As players arrive assign them to teams to create an overload e.g. 5v2, 6v3, 8v4
• Objective is to play keep ball allowing the coaches to set up the other activities

ii. Age groups/Level of Ability

• Any age, for older kids focus on moving the ball quicker e.g. 1 touch
• Players pressing should move to the player with the ball
• Look to block passing opportunities

iii. Size of Area required

• 20 yard square

• Min 3, Max 12

• 5-10 mins

vii. Structure of the Session

• Quick 5-10 min warm up

viii. Attacking points

• Look to move the ball quickly, aim towards 1 touch.

ix. Defending points

• Press quickly and block passes

x. Coaching points

• Encourage defenders to communicate and work together, don't "lunge" for the ball.
• Encourage attackers to move when they don't have the ball - don't stand behind defenders, help those with the ball by shouting or indicating where to pass.
