Moving Rondo (20 mins)

Organization/Setup:

  • Adapt based on #'s:  

     6v3 in each grid (18 players)

  • 2 Grids 22yd L x 15yd W
  • 2 Mini-Goals
  • 3min x 6 = 18min
    • After 3rd set progress

Instructions/Achievement Criteria:

  • Attacking team begins to connect 3 passes in first grid then connect to target player to receive bumper pass and finish
  • 2 defenders pressing in 1st grid, 3rd defender is between grids looking to intercept
    • After ball gets knocked out 1st & 2nd defender rotate with 3rd defender
  • Rotate all 3defenders & target player after 2 minutes
  • If Defenders win possession must dribble out of grid for 1 point

Coaching Points/Questions:

Attack:

  • Maximize space / create passing angles
  • Body shape set to see all teammates 
    • How should you position your body to play forward?
  • Movement off-ball, where should you be? When should you move? Who should be moving?
  • What is the trigger for the 3rd-man run?
    • Teammate has space to have time for head-up + forward pass to target
  • Fast movement - committed off-ball run for finish

Defense:

  • 1st and 2nd defenders press with high intensity
  • 3rd defender look to intercept/block pass

Progression: 1 Touch Max

Regression: Only 1 defender can press in 1st grid

PTDM: 2v1 (30 mins)

Organization/Setup:

  • 2 Goals, 2 GKs
  • Field size - Adapt based on numbers
  • Blue and Red players split up evenly by their goal
  • Play 15min then progress to 3v2

Instructions/Achievement Criteria:

  • Play always begins and restarts with the GK (roll out or pass)
  • 2 Attacking players (Red) receive from their GK and look to finish against 1 defender at speed
  • After play is finished, the defender and the attacker that takes the shot is OFF, attacker that didn't shoot is now the 1 defender
  • Play restarts with opposite GK with 2 new attackers
  • Offsides is ON
Coaching Points/Questions
  • Attack:
    • 1st attacker
      • Commit the defender, finish if you have a clear chance
      • Beat the defender with dribble or pass
    • 2nd attacker
      • Off-ball run to get beyond defender for chance vs GK
      • Timing of run 
        • Overlap
        • Diagonal
    • Give & go
      • Technique of pass
      • Receive with aggressive mindset to finish (shoot/forward upon 1st touch)
  • Defense:
    • 1st Defender defensive stance
      • Delay opponent
      • Force to outside
  • Transition: 
    • Quick transitions to exploit space and numbers

Progression/Regressions:

P: After 15min, progress to 3v2

PSAM: 4v4 + Bumpers (25 mins)

Organization/Setup:

  • 3v3 + 2 GKs + Bumpers
  • Field Size - Adapt based on numbers
  • 30yd L x 24yd W
  • Rotate bumpers every 6 minutes x 4
  • Play with Offsides - mark with halfway line

Instructions/Achievement Criteria:

  • 3v3 in middle with 2 bumper players for each team that are encouraged to play 1 touch
  • After goal is scored or ball is out, new groups of 3 from both teams rotate in
  • Change bumper players after 6min

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Attack:
    • Can you play the furthest attacker/bumper player? 
    • Movement off-ball
      • Where should you be? When should you move? Who should be moving?
      • How can we create an over-load? (Overlap)
      • How can we get into HPZ (High-Percentage Zone)
        • When starting wide - (diagonal run in-behind)
        • When a forward pass is played into bumper player - (3rd-man run)
    • Passing combinations (Quick speed of play, 1 or 2 touch) 
      • Catch & Play - receive with one foot pass with other
      • Give & go around defender
    • Receive with aggressive mindset (look to finish, if not then break lines / go forward upon 1st touch)
  • Defense:
    • 1st defender - Close down space, Body shape when defending
    • 2nd & 3rd defender prevent split pass
      • Cover 1st defender, compact DGC (Direct Goal Channel)

Regressions/Progressions:

  • Progression: Must score from 1st time finish
  • Progression: 4v4 + 2 GKs
  • Regression: Add neutral player in middle of field to help create more scoring chances
