SETUP.

  • TWO TEAMS, ATTACKING TEAM HAS 6 PLAYERS DEFENDING TEAM HAS 9 + GOALKEEPER.
  • BIG GOAL.
  • 6 BIBS.
  • 6 CONES.
OBJECTIVES FOR DEFENDING TEAM.

  • STAY NARROW AND COMPACT.
  • STAY IN FORMATION. (4-4-1 BACK 4, MIDFIELD 4 AND HOLD UP STRIKER).
  • CUT PASSING LANES.
  • MOVE WITH THE BALL. (IF THE BALL MOVES TO THE LEFT WE MOVE AS A UNIT TO THE LEFT).
  • WHEN YOU WIN THE BALL, THE TEAM HAS 6 SECONDS TO SPREAD OUT AND GET THE BALL THROUGH THE THREE ZONES (A-B-C).
  • START WITH A HIGH LINE, MAKE THE ATTACKING TEAM WORK THE BALL. DON'T PRESS THE OPPONENT AND OPEN GAPS, BE PATIENT AND TRAP THE OPPONENT ON THE OUTSIDE.
Things to keep in mind;
  • If we lose possession, how quick can we get into a narrow shape to stop the attack going through the middle? (6 seconds)
  • If we win the ball during a match, how quick can we counterattack to score? (6 seconds)
  • If we can't penetrate the opposition after 6 seconds what should we do? (maintain shape, recycle the ball and create space)
OBJECTIVES FOR THE ATTACKING TEAM.
  • PENETRATE THE DEFENDING TEAM AND SCORE WITH 6 PASSES.
  • IF YOU CAN'T PENETRATE AFTER 6 SECONDS RECYCLE THE BALL TO CREATE AN OPPORTUNITY AND SPACE TO ATTACK.
  • MOVE THE BALL AND OPEN SPACE. WIDE PLAYERS AND STRIKER MUST DO CREATIVE RUNS INTO SPACE TO TRY AND RECEIVE AND HOLD UP THE BALL WHILE MIDFIELDERS MOVE FORWARD UP THE PITCH. (the attacking team needs to be invasive).
  • IF THE DEFENSIVE TEAM WINS THE BALL, CAN WE PRESS THEM TO MAKE A MISTAKE. IF YOU DON'T WIN THE BALL AFTER 6 SECONDS REGROUP AND STAY COMPACT AND TIGHT.
Things to keep in mind;
  • How do we penetrate the opposition if they are defending as a unit? positioning and passing between the man can cause confusion in the defensive team.
  • When we recycle the ball who is in play and where is the numerical advantage? (can we score 1v4 or 2v5?) if we pass in an overloaded area we may risk losing possession.
  • Can we pass and move? (every player needs to move to create space or a chance to score, being static will not help your team) 6v9 we need to score and advance up the pitch quickly.
  • Can we switch play and if we can what damage can we do? Switching play can open up space.

FOCUS & AIMS.

Delay, patience, communication and movement in defence.

Penetration, creativity, movement and support play in attack.

Both teams are experiencing transitions and both teams need to react to whichever transitions they are in. If you win the ball, how quick can you damage the opposition how quick can we overload the opposition in numbers? If we lost the ball, how quick can we get into a compact formation and how quick can we win the ball back in the attacking or middle third? Both teams have to be organised and be ready to react to any situation.

6-6-6 RULE.
  • 6 seconds to regain possession and attack.
  • 6 players to attack the oppositions half and score.
  • 6 passes to penetrate the opposition.
