How to deal with crosses and how to prevent scoring.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Two Goalkeepers working at a time from both sides of the goal.
Working Goalkeeper starts out of position (somewhere between post and mannequin or player. Player A (standing on corner of 6 yard box) bounces the ball the give the Goalkeeper a cue to drop back into position. Player A tosses the ball in the air (vary toss not always a LOOPING BALL) as the Goalkeeper comes out to catch the ball. Rotate players as you suite based off of the number of GK's and the amount of reps you want them to have.
PROGRESSION:
Same as above, but now the GK's will just start where they feel comfortable(in position) Access the ball before stepping to attack it.
PROGRESION 2:
Servers (PLAYER A) Now step back another 5 yards. GK's start out of position, on bounce GK gets into position, accesses the ball then attacks the ball and catches it.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
DEALING WITH CUTBACKS ACTIVATION:
GK's start out of position as shown. Player A taps/touches the ball with their foot to cue the GK to move into position to defend the first goal and to deal with the cut back. Once the GK is in position player A strikes the ball making a cut back pass for the GK to dive and make the save. Rotate positions and each side of the goal.
PROGRESSION:
GK Now starts on inside of the mannequin(opposite from the side the cross would come from) on coaches (B) command GK drops back into position as if there was a cross coming from 3, holds that position for a count of 3 or coach says "PLAY" GK then drops back in line with B for a shot (low ball/ground) to save.
PROGRESSIONS:
Do the same for 2 and as you did with 3 except GK would adjust their set position based off of where ball 2 is.
For 1, GK starts on the inside of the same mannequin that the near post is on.
COACHING POINTS:
- Proper foot work when moving.
- Find YOUR "COMFORT" set position to cover the parts of the goal that are needed based off of where the cross is coming from.
- Access the flight of the ball before you start to attack the ball.
- Access where the attacking players are positioned.
- Move into line of the attacking player that ball is going to as quick as possible.
- Doesn't always have to be a hand save after the shot, could be foot arm, leg body etc all depends on the distance of where the shot comes from.
- Find the second ball quickly and move in line if there is a rebound.
-Defend the Goal or Defend the space on rebounds.

Warm Up -
Group players based off of numbers for the session. One ball per group. Goalkeepers look to pass and move. One and two touch only. (Preferably one touch if skill level allows).
After about one minute thirty seconds, goalkeepers skip and while on the move loosen up their shoulders(arm crossing motion) and add a little jump in (highball movement) for about twenty seconds. Then while moving the Goalkeepers toss a ball in the air(vary the tosses) for another Goalkeeper to catch. Make sure they are calling "Goalkeeper" when collecting the ball.
Progression to high ball toss player who tosses the ball apply light pressure to Keeper who is catching the ball.
COACHING POINTS:
- Quality touch and weight on the pass
- Quick movement after the pass with proper body shape facing the ball to be ready to receive.
- Access the ball before attacking it.
- Rotate which foot you jump off of and which knee you bring up.
-Land on two feet.
-Take a couple steps forward after catching the ball to simulate breaking the first line of pressure with possibility to distribute the ball.
- Keeper Call.
- Catch the ball more infant of you and not directly over your head or behind.
