Technical Activity (10 mins)

Duration

- 10 Minutes,

Equipment

- Cones, balls, bibs, players,

Set Up

- Area approx. 14 yards in length x 10 yards in width. Small 3 x 3 square marked with cones in each corner. Small 3 x 3 diamond set up in the middle of the larger pitch as in picture.

- 4 bibs of the same colour placed in each corner square, each square to have different coloured bibs. 4 Balls to be placed in each square also.

The Activity

- 4 players start in each corner (wearing the associated coloured bib).

- Players then take it in turns to run with their ball, 1 at a time, with any foot/foot surface, in a clockwise direction, to the next corner. Once a player arrives in the next corner they stop and wait. Their team mate can now leave the original corner and dribble to catch them up. Once all 4 team members have moved to the next corner, the player who originally went first runs with their ball to the next corner and again waits.

- This process repeats until all players have made it back to their original corner.  When this happens the initial warm up has been completed.

Repeat the activity 2 further times, again going clockwise and then anticlockwise, progressing to only use 1 foot on each rotation.

Progression

- Introduce gates to run through on the longer runs to encourage a change or direction and work on ball control / pace. Closer simulation to RL.

Regression

- Smaller areas if too physical. Smaller groups if players bored/behaviour issues.

Skill Activity (10 mins)

Duration

- 10 Minutes,

Equipment

- As pervious.

Set Up

- As pervious, with the exception of all balls are placed in the centre diamond.

The Activity

- 4 players start in each corner (wearing the associated coloured bib).

- Players then take it in turns to run to the centre diamond, collect a ball and dribble back to their square (red arrows). As they return, they high-five a team mate who runs to the centre to return another ball. This is repeated until all the balls are collected. total up each teams ball count and the highest wins.

- Repeat this 2-3 times, using L/R foot only.

- After this, do another 2 runs, but this time once the centre diamond is empty the activity doesn't stop. Instead all players are now free to run to another teams corner and steal a ball, running with it back to their own corner (black arrows).  This activity continues for 30 seconds or so. At the final whistle, the team with the msot balls wins.

Progression

- Introduce gates to run through on the longer runs to encourage a change or direction and work on ball control / pace. Closer simulation to RL.

- Introduce a condition teams have to run to the opposite diagonal corner to steal the ball only. This should create head on running and force a change of direction and/pace.

Regression

- Smaller areas if too physical. Smaller groups if players bored/behaviour issues.

- Limit to 1 player allowed to steal at a time if too chaotic and mechanical observations cannot be done.
