Organisation - 6-8 boys working around the diamond setup of the cones. Player 1 players the ball into player 2 who receives on his back foot ( to open up and see bigger picture ) to then play into player 3 who repeats. Players to follow pass. Players are to play around the cone ( defender ) need to get into the habit of pulling away to receive.
Talk to the boys about body positioning and show them how much more of the pitch you can see just by turning the body to receive.
Coaching points
- Body positioning
- Passing accuracy - Pass to back foot to help with speed of play.
- 1st touch towards where we want to play
- Triggers of movement away from the cone

Organisation - 6-8 players required. Still passing in a diamon formation however this time the two players in the middle stay the same. Once the base or top of the diamond has the ball they then pull out to receive. Player 2 then combines with player 3 in the middle, as this is happening player 1 makes an overlapping run. Player 3 then plays the ball into the path of player 1 who plays into player 4.
Coaching Points
- Body positioning to receive
- weight and accuracy of pass
- passing into space - why ?
- Timing of runs - why must our team have good possesion before we overlap ?
Progression
- Add a goal at either end and once player 1 receives the ball from player 3 he has 1v1 vs a GK or can just shoot into empty net depending on numbers.
