Ball Familiarisation (5 mins)

Set up: Each player with a ball in their own space

Organisation:

The coach will demonstrate a variety of ball mastery movements that the players have to copy.

King/Queen of the Ring (10 mins)

Set up: Each player with a ball inside the circle or square

Activity: The aim is to keep control of your ball, and keep it inside the circle. At the same time, look for opportunities to kick other balls out of the circle.

Once out, the player must complete a ball mastery move (see making friends with the ball) or juggle before rejoining

Progression: Eliminated players become defender who try to eliminate every player.

Alternate: All players carry the ball using the palm of one hand only. Instead of kicking the ball out, players use their spare hand to knock other players ball out.

Coach Emphasis: Keep the ball close, small touches with different parts of the foot, scan the area to find space or attacking opportunities, use your body to protect the ball

Activity - 1v1 (15 mins)

Set Up: Approx 12x20 space. 2 teams split into 4 groups as shown. Red team starts with the ball.

Organisation: Both ends play at the same time. White players pass to blue players. Once Blue players receive the ball they try to dribble to furthest end line. If red win the ball back, they try to score on opposite line. Play is continuous and join the opposite line. Switch roles after 2-3 minutes.

Coaching Points:

quality of first touch - out of feet but not too far, accelerate 

1v1 move - can you slow down and make a move and re-accelerate?

Small Sided Game (15 mins)

Set Up: 12m(length)x 25m (width) field with two 2m end Zones.  3v3 in the middle.  

Rules and Objectives:

The blues and whites attempt to dribble into, or receive a pass inside their opponents end zone to score a point.

Coach Emphasis:

Spread out to find space to dribble, take positive (forward) first touches towards the target, take larger touches to accelerate

Q&A: Do you pass to feet or into space? Can you pass through the gaps - How will you see those gaps?
