Description

The focus of this session is to expose players in the Foundation Phase (9-11 years) to an enjoyable football environment using the eAcademy digital platform to further develop players' capacity to execute the 'scissors' move, emulating Sadio Mane as the LFC role model. Players will be exposed to a series of fun games and activities throughout the session to develop their attacking skills, generate excitement and a love for playing football 'The Liverpool Way.'

Technique: 1v1 Domination (10 mins)

THE SESSION:

Part 1:

- Show the LFC eAcademy Scissors clip to the participants (1:42)

- Players to practice the Scissors move inside the big square

- Coach to remind them of the three Coaching Points: 1) Disguise; 2) Contact Point; 3) Accelerate Away, using Sadio Mane as the LFC role model.

Part 2:

- Select four (4) defenders in central square remaining players spread around outside of central square with a ball each.

- On the coach's command (e.g. "Go" or whistle), the blue players on the outside with a ball are challenged to dribble into the central square.

- Red players (defenders) aim to stop the blue players from entering the central square.

SCORING SYSTEM:

- 1 point for blue player entering the central square

- 2 points for blue player entering the central square after successfully executing Mane's Scissors move from the LFC eAcademy

- 3 points for the red player if they win a ball from a blue player and dribble the ball over any line of the outer square.

VARIATIONS:

- Change the role of the defending players regularly (e.g. after two attempts)

- Add defenders to increase the challenge

KEY MESSAGES/POINTS:

- Close control

- Players need to focus on keeping the ball close to their feet whilst executing skill to beat an opponent

- Execution of moves (focus on 3 Coaching Points from LFC eAcademy)

- Decision making (when to execute a skill to beat an opponent)

- Players need to make decisions on when to take big touches and when to take small touches depending on the space they have available and the position of the defenders.

- Use LFC role models (e.g. Mane when executing scissors & Salah when looking to beat an opponent when pressure is in front)

- Normal game, 1 point for a goal for the first 5 minutes

- To maximise game time, there is the option for the goalkeeper to start/restart play (place balls near goals)

PROGRESSIONS/VARIATIONS:

- A goal is worth 3 points if a player beats an opponent before they score. This creates an incentive to execute skills within a game, emulating LFC role models

- Change opponents every 5 minutes (play each team once)

- Every player needs to experience role of the goalkeeper (rotate after every game)

KEY MESSAGES/POINTS:

- Encourage children to be positive in 1v1 situations. Praise desired actions (e.g. executing scissors move or another LFC eAacdemy skill) without stopping the game

- Use LFC role models (e.g. Mane: Scissors move; Salah: ability to go past an opponent when pressure is in front; Firmino: ability to wriggle out of pressure when its coming from behind you)
