Transition Pressing Game (Reactive Pressing to Possession Loss)

Session Plan:

Players from the middle will look to press the team in possession, should they win the ball, they will aim to move the ball across to the straight to the other side for a point, The Team in possession will look to combine a number of passes and transition the ball across to gain a point.

Coaching Points:

When coaching the press, ensure players are thinking about their pressing shadow and cutting off the passing lane for the player in possession of the ball, look for the players to work as a unit to trap the opposition in the corners to limit their space.

Players In-Possession should be looking to combine quickly, thinking about how they are going to create angles and longer distances with each other.

When approaching the number of passes required, players should be thinking about their next pass, taking up positions which can allows them transition the ball across.

Progressions:

Allow the players in the middle to act as the rest defence and can intercept the ball from the middle.

To Encourage a higher intensity on the press, add one more player to the press leaving only one spare player to receive the ball and force In-possession players to think about using the space to receive in.

Add a goal on the outside of the pitches for players to try and score in if they win the ball In Possession.
