Description

Session Objective: Aim is to have the goalkeeper comfortable with ball distribution and to execute the shot stopping save with quick response.

Warm Up (10min)

Set Up:

4x GK's
6&18yrd area
10 Balls
Cones
1x large Goal

Organisation:

4 Goalkeepers within 18yrd box working goalkeeper in 6yrd box.
3 Servers in 18rd box on perimeter area.
Goalkeepers pass the ball between each other around the 18rd box area.
On coaches whistle, at the time a server receives the ball they are to take a shot and the working goalkeeper is to save the shot.
This process is repeated 5 times then a rotation happens with a new working goalkeeper in goal area.
Each goalkeeper receives a point each save made.

Coaching Points:

Move into correct position on saving shot.
Dive, front smother or overhand or underhand catch
Catch or deflect shot
Quick feet & recover.
Body positioning when receiving pass and control of first touch.
Delivery of pass accuracy and direction of pass.

Progression:

Adding rewards on saves and larger area of play.

Training (25min)

Set Up:

2-4 GK's
1x large goal
10-15 Balls
18yrd box area
2x small goals.

Organsitation:

Working goalkeeper in the goal, one server at the top of the 18yrd line to shoot at the goal, one server at the right of the 18yrd box to deliver a pass and one server on the left side of the 18yrd box to deliver pass, the coach is ready in random position to send in a high ball.
The working goalkeeper asks for the ball from the side, receives the pass, opens up and passes the ball to the other side of choice.
After the pass the GK immediately goes to the centre of the goal to deal with the shot from the server at the top of the 18rd box.
The GK rolls the ball back to the shooter and quickley finds the right position to deal with the high ball from the coach.
After catching the high ball the GK distributes the ball into one of the small goals, via under or over arm or pass.
GK rotation after 5 turns.
GK's to focus on improvement of passing and receiving, opening up dealing with shots and crosses and ball distribution.

Coaching Points:

Dealing with the high ball- Keeping eyes on the ball,Hands at hips, move towards the ball and make the last step before the jump large, communicate "Keeper" on moving to ball, look to distribute the ball quickley.
Dealing with the shot- moving into correct position in front of goal, get set position and fall, dive, front smother, deflect utilise scoop and cup techniques.
Distribution- correct body positioning opening up when receiving, when passing accuracy and direction of pass, when throwing of the ball over and under arm correct technique strong dirct and with accuracy get hands arms in correct positions.
