6v6+GKs

Organisation:

  • Two teams of 6 players separated into zones as shown above with 2 goalkeepers.
  • Team in possession try to play through opposition defensive line to their strikers. 
  • On receiving the ball, the striker must pass to his teammate who has 1 touch to finish.
  • If the defending team intercept the pass, they become the attacking team and roles reverse.

Attacking KP's:

  • Quality Passing (& Disguise)
  • Movement/Support
  • Forward options
  • Communication

Defending KP's: 

  • Pressing (who, how, when)
  • Cover & Balance when 1 player pressing
  • Little space between defenders.
  • Compact (Vertically & Horizontally)
  • Shifting/moving as a unit
  • Communication

Transition KP's: 

  • Quick reaction to transition
  • Can we pass forward/score quickly (attack)
  • Can we regroup quickly (defence)

Questions: 

  • Who presses (in variety of situations, depending who has the ball) and why etc.

8v6 Pressing (20 mins)

Organisation:

  • 8v6 .
  • The red team look to pass into their striker in the finishing zone.
  • Once the ball goes into the red striker, the field is open and players are free to move around the area.
  • If the defenders regain possession, they look to counter attack on the goals behind the attacking team.

Attacking KP's:

  • Change of speed/direction
  • Positive 1st touch, drive at the defender.
  • Movement/Support from teammate
  • Communication

Defending KP's: 

  • Angle/Arc run to show attacker away from goal.
  • Body shape - side on.
  • Fast to show, high to low.
  • Covering player positioning
  • Make field small

Transition KP's: 

  • Quick reaction to transition
  • Can we pass forward/score quickly (attack)
  • Can we regroup quickly (defence)

Questions: 

  • Why would we arc or angle our run when pressing an attacker?
