Play 5 v 2 inside of a small box. Try to complete as many passes as possible in a row. If the defender wins it, possession switches over when he plays the ball to one of his teammates on the sideline. His team then comes into the square and plays with the 5 v 2 advantage. The team who had the longest passing streak overall wins.

Set Up: 60 x 44, 18 - 20 players.
Equipment: Balls, pinnies, cones
Activity: We set up a 9 v 6 in one half, with one team in possession and the other team pressing to win the ball back and play it back to the 3 defenders who have stayed back. When the ball is turned over, we quickly transition the ball to their teammates in the other half. A point is given for each turnover, given a good pass is made.
Progressions: [a] add GK into boxes and take away midway line, teams get a point for playing a ball into the GK box either in the air or on the ground; Break them into three teams of 6 and remove the halfway line. Each team gets a chance to press and if they win it back, they get a point, as well as an extra point if they can make 5 passes;[c] teams in possession can only pass to opposite color

Set Up: Full width x 70 yards. 10 v 10 plus 2 GK
Equipment: Balls, cones, pinnies, poles, goals
Activity: We play 10 v 10, with the black team defending the big goal and scoring on the smaller goals and the white team defending the small goals and attacking the big goal. The white team scores 1 point for playing the ball through the gate, and 3 points if it is through the gate to the GK on the other side. The team out of possession must squeeze in, leaving the weak side open, when the ball is on one side of the field. When in possession, there are no more than 3 passes allowed in any area and there is a 3 touch max for each player. When defending, you may not tackle, you may only intercept or win the ball off of a bad touch to eliminate stabbing.
Progressions: Add a normal goal at the other line, then take away channels, turning into normal game.

Defensive Shape Warm Up (15 mins)
Set Up: Half field with full squad. 4 lines of cones, every 10 yards, separated by 10-15 yards.
Equipment: Cones, ladders, balls.
Activity: Players will use the cones as reference points for defensive pressure and utilizing proper defensive shape and technique. First working as a single defender, we will press each cone in a specific direction. We then move in to working as pairs, focusing on pressure/cover principles, then into a block of 4. After you finish, you will complete ladder work with a Coerver circuit or sprint at the end. Jog back to the start (outside the cones).
