Objectives: Improve the use of drag push and drag scissors to beat a defender
Coaching Points:
Drag Push: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lu8NInHEHNc1. Stay low, behind the ball and close to the ball
2. Drag inside with the inside of the foot as if to go one way
3. Hop on the standing leg
4. Push with the outside of the other foot to go the other way
5. Accelerate away
Drag Scissors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4Cipn1vPhY1. Stay low, behind the ball and close to the ball
2. Drag inside with the inside of the foot as if to go one way
3. Small hop on the standing leg
4. Use scissors with the other foot to fake to go the other way
5. Take in the original direction with the outside of what was the standing foot
6. Accelerate away

Objective: get players to focus on "accelerate away" after completing the move
Action:
Reds v blues
2 players start at the same time from yellow cones
Dribble toward manequin
Complete a move and exit through the side of the area (marked by red cones)
After exiting the side of the area players shoot and finish in the mini-goals.
First player to score gets a point
Players rejoin their team mates
Moves:
1) Side step
2) Scissors
3) Drag push
Focus on doing the move with good mechanics and accelerating away to get a shot off quickly.
Coach technique of finishing using either a pass into the net, curling finish or power strike.
Ensure players get equal time to practice moves and shooting with both feet
Targets: team with most goals.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Objective: use feint moves to beat a defender 1v1 with full defensive pressure
Set up:
12 to 15 metre square as above.
Around 8 - 10 metre gap between 2 goals
Adjust distances of blue / red starting gates so that a player must beat a defender to score.
Action:
Reds enter and score (unopposed), red then becomes a defender
Blues enter as soon as reds score and can score in either goal
When goal is scored or ball goes dead next red player enters and plays 1v1 against blue player who is now a defender
And so on
See video: https://youtu.be/xvyLOkLhTK4?si=zcXAkuPvEnF0LulX&t=103
Targets;
1 point per goal
3 points if use a feint move to beat the defender before scoring
Challenges:
How quickly can you score, e.g. 3 second limit
Make easier: restrict defender to walking, or only allowed to intercept (not tackle)
Make harder: move red / blue starting gates back a few metres.
Transition to a 2v2 game for the small group play.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Objective: Use moves to achieve success in a 2v2 setting
Set up and distances
15 - 18 metres wide by 20-24 metres long
Action:
Teams play 2v2
Coaches serve balls in to maximise ball rolling time.
Conditions:
defending team not allowed to "guard" the goal, must defend outside end zone (yellow cones) and put pressure on the ball.
Defenders may only enter the end zone when ball or attacking player enters scoring zone
Target:
1 point per goal
3 points per goal after combining with attacking player on goal line
Challenge:
can you score quickly, e.g. in less than 3 seconds after entering the practice area
player on goal line must play one touch wall pass
Coaching points:
Encourage team mate not on ball to make runs to create space, e.g. overlaps, underlaps, pass and rotate positions such that a player on the ball can isloate a defender 1v1
Encourage use of feint moves to create space for a pass to team mate on goal line and then run into space to receive again
Coach technique of finishing using either a pass into the net, curling finish or power strike.

Objective: Use moves to achieve success in a game setting
Set up and distances
15 - 18 metres wide by 20-24 metres long
End zones 3 metres from goals marked by yellow cones and shown shaded
Action (3+1 v 3+1):
One player from each team is positioned in each end zone and can combine with team mates.
Teams effectively play 4 v 3
Coaches serve balls in to maximise ball rolling time.
Conditions:
defending team not allowed to "guard" the goal, must defend outside end zone until ball or attacking player enters scoring zone
Target:
1 point per goal
3 points per goal after combining with attacking player on goal line
Challenge:
can you score quickly, e.g. in less than 3 seconds after entering the practice area
player on goal line must play one touch wall pass
Coaching points:
Encourage team mate not on ball to make runs to create space by making the pitch big such that player on the ball can isloate a defender 1v1
Encourage use of feint moves to create space for a pass to team mate on goal line and then run into space to receive again
Coach technique of finishing using either a pass into the net, curling finish or power strike.

Ball mastery
Objective: get players warmed up, develop ball feeling relevant to the moves being taught in this session
Ball mastery / warm up (do on arrival, doesn't require the set up in this pic, players can do in any available space):
Shuffle https://vimeo.com/268924464/6b2b79852d
Shuffle take https://vimeo.com/268925034/1db5539d64
Take scissors: https://vimeo.com/268926001/b04138bf76
Inside out rolls: https://vimeo.com/268925755/ff25555ef1
Shuffle roll over: https://vimeo.com/268925890/e912385a2b
Then introduce the moves and allow the players to get a few reps:
1) Side step
2) Scissors
3) Drag push
Coach the mechanics of each move.
Transition straight to speed drill which uses the same layout.
