Creative play in and around the 18 yard box
What:
Creative, attacking play in and around the 18 yard box with in a 433
How:
Function in a 15 yard deep area the width of the 18 yard box with front three and two attacking CMs
Challenges/Conditions/Targets:
Attacking team (Red, coached team) play with a front three with two supporting attacking midfielders. The DMC acts as a server.
The defensive team (Blue, un-coached) play with a flat back 4.
Attacking team encouraged to break lines or create space to get shots off through quick combination play without being offside – edge of the 18 yard box.
Reds can use target DMC to retain possession (Challenge to play on 1 or 2 touches)
Blues aim to defend the goal and if they gain possession play into the DMC target player within 5 passes.
Why?
Opportunity to work with attacking three and two attacking midfielders and encourage creative play and create plenty of attacking decisions…..pass, shoot or dribble. “Be creative….try something new”
Key Points:
Guided discovery question – in tight areas how do we need to play?
A – quickly, reduced touches, high tempo.
Combination play: one-two’s, third man runs
Individual Creativity: Exploit 1v1’s, tricks, feints, acceleration
Movement to receive, deceive or pin
No. 9 to play as high as possible without being offside – pin a CB
No.’s 7 and 11 to start as wide as possible to stretch back 4 – width of the 18 yard box – one drive in, one stay out to provide width – look for opportunities to shoot at goal or play in behind (side rule) defence for No. 9 to finish
No.’s 8 and 10 to support to create overload – if under no pressure, shoot
Decisions: When to shoot? When to pass? When to dribble?
