Description

What:

  • Small dribbles with heads up, identifying space, and avoiding defenders.

Where:

  • All areas of the field.

Who:

  • Attacking players.

When:

  • After being pressured by an opponent and reacting with a dribble.

Zombies (15 mins)

Organization:

  • All players on the field without a ball.
  • All balls in one goal.
  • One 'Zombie' with a ball at their feet.

Instructions:

  • The zombie is trying to turn the soccer players into zombies by tagging them with the ball below the knee.
  • If a player gets tagged, they quickly get a ball and begin tagging the players.
  • Last player wins.

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • How do we change direction quickly? (inside/outside/skill move)
  • What part of the foot do we use to dribble forward? (laces)
  • What part of the foot helps us quickly stop the ball? (sole)
  • Do we want to take big touches or small touches towards the soccer players? (small touches)
  • Why do we want to take small touches towards the soccer players?(If they change direction, we can change direction too!)

Regressions/Progressions:

  • Start with multiple zombies.
  • If a zombie tag 3 players, they can become a soccer player again.
  • Start a competition between the zombies and see who can convert the most soccer players.

Ghostbusters (15 mins)

Organization:

  • All players on the field with a ball.
  • 1 player without a ball.

Instructions:

  • The Ghostbusters (players without a ball) are trying to catch the ghosts by stealing their ball and putting them in the cage.
  • If a Ghostbuster steals a ball, they can score in either goal.
  • Last ghost left wins.

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Do we want to take big touches or small touches as a ghost? (both! depends on how many Ghostbusters are near us and if there is space to dribble into.
  • How do we change direction quickly? (inside/outside/skill move)
  • What part of the foot do we use to dribble forward? (laces)
  • What part of the foot helps us quickly stop the ball? (sole)
  • What part of the body do we use to identify the ghostbusters/space? (Eyes)
  • Should the eyes be up or down when dribbling? (Up!)

Regressions/Progressions:

  • The ghosts can 'taunt' the ghostbusters by doing toe-taps for additional points. The ghost with the most toe-taps at the end of the round wins.
  • Use both sides of the field to extend the space.

Portal Jump (15 mins)

Organization:

  • Regular FIFA rules enforced in a small-sided game environment WITH ONE CHANGE.

Instructions:

  • Players must dribble through 'portals' to get points before scoring.
  • If a team scores before dribbling through a portal, it is zero points.
  • The cones lining the field create portals for the players to quickly dribble through.
  • Players must dribble quickly around the cone, leaving the field but quickly re-entering the field to get a 'portal point.'
  • Players can get as many portal points as they want before scoring.
  • If they get three portal points and then score, they get 3 points.
  • If the ball is cleared out of bounds, it is thrown/passed in.

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • What parts of the foot do we use to make this dribble possible? (outside/inside)
  • If a defender challenges us near the sideline and we are able to dribble past them, what kind of scoring opportunity have we created? (2v1)
  • How can we spread the defenders? (standing on the far side of the field to receive the ball)
  • How can we create space to get portal points? (dribbling forward, passing backwards, attaining portal points, scoring)

Regressions/Progressions:

  • If a team gets portal points, fails to score, and a counterattack happens: the team that stole the ball can get all of the portal points AS LONG as the ball does not leave play.
  • Players can do stop/starts near a sideline cone if they are struggling with the quick dribbling motion.
  • If you can get a 'portal point' along the opponents touchline, it is worth two points.
