  • 3 x 15x12 yard (or steps) lanes
  • 3-4 per lane
  • 10 minutes

Rules/Explanation

Players will move freely around the the lane with a ball each.

  • Static juggling 1 min
  • Open & close the gate 1 min
  • Dynamic juggling 1 min
  • Hamstring sweep 30s

  • Inside, outsides 1 min
  • Inside, outside, ball roll 1 min
  • Open & close the gate 1min
  • Lunge & pivot 30s

  • L-drag, forward touch 1 min

Basic Situation 1v1 (15 mins)

Explanation

1v1 to shift ball and play beyond/between lines.

Attacker (red) plays 1-2 with immediate opponent (blue) who then applies passive pressure to force attacker one way. Attacker shifts ball out of feet to pass to receiver (furthest red player) between either gate. Receivers movement needs to be creative and counter the defenders movement that is blocking the line.

Once highest red player receives, or blue player blocks, restart. Keep the 2 blockers in for a period of time and count how many they can block in 90 seconds.

Progression

1. Passive pressure into active pressure - once the attacker breaks that first line, defender is eliminated

2. 1st blue defender is now live the whole time


Coaching Points

- Detail in shift touch to create space to play forwards

- Movement of the receiver into channels/gates

- Type of pass - punched in, disguised, or reverse pass

Team Principle:

Invite pressure to penetrate (vs a low block)

Vertical passing to penetrate (vs a high press)

Practice Explanation:

  • River game
  • Progress through amount of pressing players (0>1>2)
  • No pass limit to transfer
  • If defending team win ball it's a 4v4 game towards goal/s

Coaching Points:

  • Inviting pressure to penetrate
  • Receiving with correct body shape to play forwards where possible
  • Creating angles to find passing lanes into targets
  • Rotating ball if no clear opportunity to progress the ball

Attacking Organisation: Build Up

Team Principle:

Vertical passing to penetrate (vs a high press)

Practice Explanation:

  • 7 (+GK) V 5 overload to building team 
  • Ball starts with GK and red team try to progress ball into either the target player or the mini-goals for a point
  • Blue team aim to press and win the ball to score in the big goal
  • Pitch is cut at 18 yard box and no FB/W for either team on that side to encourage same side penetration
  • Reverse sides so other side is working after 5-10mins
