Rectangle Passing Pattern 1

Set-up: four cones marking a 10 yard x 15 yard area, 2-3 players at each cone

Description: Players pass the ball in a continuous pattern (players follow their pass). The ball is played along the short edge of the rectangle, across the diagonal to the opposite cone, along the short edge, and across the diagonal to the opposite cone (starting position).

Progressions: one touch, add a second/third ball

Coaching Points: sharp/accurate passes to feet, receiving on correct foot, scan area to make sure there are no obstructions, check off cone to create space/passing lane when players are running through

Rectangle Passing Pattern 2

Set-up: four cones marking a 20 yard x 30 yard area with 2 cones 4-6 yards apart in the middle, 2 players at each corner cone, one player at each middle cone

Description: Players pass the ball in a continuous pattern. Player A passes the ball to central player (Player B). Player C checks in to middle. Player A overlaps around Player C (not the cone) and receives the pass from Player B. Player A passes across to Player D who restarts the pattern on that side.

Progressions: one touch, add a second ball

Coaching Points: sharp/accurate passes, receiving on correct foot, check into central player at proper distance/angle, bend overlapping run into middle
