Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions): Start the session without channels to see if the players can maintain width using the inner playing area. Focus on trying to play through the lines to create goalscoring opportunities. Encourage shots.
Increase width to utilise the designated channels.
Place conditions on channel players being unopposed if needed and then increase to opposed.
Place a condition on at least 2 players having to remain in defending half if required.
If needed make one player from a weaker team of 4 v 4 'neutral' to step in to assist that team.
If there are 12 players in the drill incorporate 2 wide players in the channels and 2 GK's. Rotate the 3 coloured sets of bibbed players to ensure rotation and experience. Allow a team to repeat/rehearse if it doesn't go to plan.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Challenge 1 - Can we play through the middle white flat cones. Score 2 points. 1 point for a shot in opposition half.
Challenge 2 - Can we utilise the wide player and break the line at halfway. Keep through the middle points 2 and add 1 point for including the channel. Score a goal 2 points.
Conditions - 2 players have to remain in defensive half.
Channel players to be unopposed to begin with.
A condition could be added that the team has to utilise a wide player.
Target to score as many points as possible adhering to the above conditions and challenges.
Coach to reference and highlight a good break of line to reiterate to players those moments.
