Description

Key Learning Outcomes (1v1, frontal pressure w/ momentum)

• Identification of 1vs 1 (space behind defender)

• Positive 1st touch (drive at defender, makes it easier to unbalance defender)

• Attack defenders front foot

• Awareness of next action (where is the goal, space, team mates, covering defenders)

• Smaller touches on the ball (use of pinky toe to dribble the ball) “Like Messi” as approaching defender

• Unbalance defender with ball movement

• Unbalance defender with body movement (Use of body to sell the fake)

• Dropping the shoulder

• Looking opposite way

• Opening up of hips

• Timing of Execution of move based upon space between you and the defender

• Protect the ball (put body between defender and ball)

• Final touch of move bigger (allows head to come up)

• Accelerate away if looking to continue to dribblE

• Cut across defender, If looking to continue dribbling

• Quality of end product

Technical Warm-up (20 mins)

Objective:

Physically and mentally prepare for session, develop different skills for control and retention of ball

Organization:

-20 x 20 yard area

-Each player has a ball

Instructions:

Part 1

• Each player has a ball and is introduced to a few different types of dribbling techniques:

• Dribbling Techniques-Close Control, Runing with the ball, Chaning Directions

• Players will be asked how they might use each type, after they have been introduced:

• If you have a lot of space which technique might be the best?

• If you are in a very tight space how could you dribble?

PART 2

• Space is the same, now all but two players have a ball.

• The players with out the ball are defenders and hold a pinnie in their

• Defenders are trying to simply touch another players ball with their foot (They are not trying to tackle)

• When a Defender touches a ball they take that ball and give their pinnie to the attacker.

• That attacker then becomes the tagger/defender

• The goal is to get tagged the fewest times and to not be it when time runs out.

PART 3

• The same as part 2, only now defenders can only get out of the middle if they steal the ball and score on one of the pugs

Coaching Points:

1) Using the proper dribbling technique/surface of the foot

2) Looking for/identifiying where the open space.

3) Aware of the defenders, other attackers and boundaries

Technical Repetitions (20 mins)

Objective: Teach dribbling and faking (dynamic moves) technique.

Equipment: Cones and balls.

Organization: Grid size 5 - 12 yards wide X 12 - 20 yards long (depending on objetctive). Set up into each channel with groups of 4 - 6 players. Players dribble inside, engage in a fake (move) and accelerate out the opposite way, switching lines.

Progression:

Types of moves: step fake (changing feet and not changing feet), inside outside, scissors, shot fake, romario, roll across, pass across, chip, cut inside and quickly switch ball to other foot outside.

or Combination of moves--progress through session

Such as Feint-Inside/Outside-Scissors

Progression 1: Coordination if you demand players reach middle at the same time.

Progression 2: Extra cut if after the acceleration, players are asked to cut back across the line.

Progression 3: Make the space longer and work on combination of fakes (moves).

Progression 4: Make a pass after the move. Make a combination of passes after the move.

Coaching Points:

- Proper dribbling technique (ability to use various parts of the foot).

- Engaging defender to move them.

- Change of speed to beat player.

- Change direction to beat a player.

- Push ball in behind defender to beat player.

- Biomechanics of fakes (moves)

- Posture when dribbling and when changing speed.

- Dribbling with head up.

1v1 Frontal from receving a pass (pass-attack-defend) (20 mins)

specifically off a reception of a pass.

Organization: Players divided into 3 lines: Passing Line, Attacking Line and Defending Line.

• The passer then plays a ball to the attacker who is checking back to recive the ball.

• Defender has one of 3 starting positions depending on the objective.

• Attacker scores either by dribbling through gate (different point values) or shooting depending on coaches choice for the day.

- Ready body posture, hips open to field, and support angle.

- Weight and angle of pass.

- Eyes up and looking over field.

- Check shoulder.

- Check away and then back.

- Orientation of first touch.

- Engage the defender with rhythmic dribbling.

- Proper dribbling technique (ability to use various parts of the foot).

- Posture/ center of gravity when dribbling and when changing speed.

- Dribbling with head up.

- Dribbling inside to create more options.

- Pressing ((Defensively))

- Transition speeds.

Progression:

- Defender has different starting positions.

- Defender has different line of confrontation.

- Different starting cues (passer touch, attacker moves, defender moves, coach cue either visual or audio.

2v2 +GK Flying changes to goal (20 mins)

Objective:

Small sided game to create various attacking and defending situations.

Equipment:

Two goals, (2) different color cones, balls, and (2) different color bibs.

Organization:

Two teams set up across from eachother, each team with half the balls. Grid size depends on age/ level/ and objective. Teams play 2v2 +GK, with aim of getting across the half line and finishing on goal. Whichever side the ball goes in the net or out of bounds on is the the side in which a new team enters with a new ball. Restriction lines on both sides can be put in place to restrict GK movement, delineate minimum shot distance, create free zone for entering players to ensure it doesn't turn into a counter attack game (do not use restriction line if you are working on counter attacking)

Coaching Points:

- Create passing and combination options for your teammate.

- Create 2v1 situations by beating a player 1v1.

- Look to score.

- Defensive priniciples.

- Coaching points really depend on the topic for your session.

Progression:

1) If team scores, the same rotation takes place except the team that scored gets a ball played into them by their teammates waiting in line.

2) Have an all time target.
